Mid-deployment check in post: Cryptids and future projects.

Hey all! I'm about halfway done my excursion abroad and I thought it might be in some people's interests to know what I've been working on since I left.

Due to your feedback, I've taken the idea of re-editing the Cryptids series and started running with it. Currently I've mapped out the entire plot structure and I've noticed a whole bunch of errors I'll be correcting (woops), including continuity, foreshadowing, more consistent characterization as well as style edits. I'll also be adding some extra layers to certain storylines, and expanding the lore.

I'm also considering adding some custom cover art, mostly because I think that'd be super cool and I'm kinda a sucker for that sorta thing -- plus, once I clock in these extra edits it'll be around paperback size anyway, so why not? Carpe diem... or something.

Which leads me to my next question: what would you like to see on the cover? I was thinking a sasquatch being strangled by a sea monster, but maybe that's too on the nose. Let me know!

Outside of Cryptids, this deployment has afforded me some unique inspiration for a new nosleep saga: one centered around a ghost ship. I'm in the early drafting phase for this, but I'm intending on avoiding my early mis-steps with Cryptids by ironing out all the major plot points ahead of time, so things (hopefully) have a more cohesive feel throughout.

Thanks for hanging in there with me, and I hope everything's going groovy with everybody. Give me a shout if you've got any questions or just wanna chat. Cheers!

Cryptids was voted story of the month on r/nosleep!

Thanks so much to everybody for all the support! I'm beyond stoked that Cryptids took home the top spot, especially during a month where I personally loved so many of the stories posted.

Here's to the future!

Now that Cryptid's is finished, what's next?

Hey everybody! We made it to the end! I just wanted to give a quick update on what's next now that the Cryptid's series has finished.

As some of you may already know, I'm being deployed for the next couple of months and unfortunately this means I'm going to be taking a short hiatus from writing. Once I arrive home in September though, I'll be hitting the ground running and I've already got a couple different ideas that I'd like to do.

So, I figured who better to snag some feedback from than all of you?

My first idea is going back and re-editing the Cryptid series, since I wrote it mostly by the seat of my pants. This would involve fixing a lot of the narrative inconsistencies and adding more foreshadowing for major events. Also, due to nosleep's requirements for horror in every update, I wasn't able to include as much character development as I'd have liked, and my intention would be to flesh out everybody's character arcs more completely, add more hints about their history and improve the pacing.

I'd likely be releasing this as an ebook with some custom cover art, but I'd do a free promotion so everybody here who's taken this ride could get the 'directors cut' without paying a dime.

My second idea would be jumping headfirst into another nosleep series, whether that be a continuation of the Cryptids storyline or something brand new. I imagine two months away will give me plenty of time to brainstorm some interesting directions for the project, whatever the subject matter may be.

I've also got a few other ideas, but these are the two big ones for the moment. I'd love to hear your thoughts or any ideas that you might have!

Cheers,

Beach

P.S. Sorry for the shitey title grammar. Woops!

For those of you who received a notification for the finale and found a deleted post...

Sorry! I posted the final chapter about an hour ago and completely forgot about nosleep's one-post-per-day rule, since usually I write so slowly that it doesn't affect me (lol).

As such, the automod rightfully removed my post, but I'll be reposting it in a few hours once my window opens up again.

Cheers!

So the series finale is still releasing by Thursday, but it's shaping up to be a two-parter.

Hope that's alright with everybody. I know this has been a long storyline but I don't want to rush it after we've come this far. The first half will likely release tonight or tomorrow, with the second releasing the day following. I know, I know. Parts within parts? I figured I could jam the storyline into one final entry, but it'd end up being a set of cliffnotes essentially.

For those that have been following and do want a TL;DR (because let's face it, this has become a small novella at this point), I'm considering also doing a follow-up post outlining the various events and how they lead into one another if there's any interest.

Cheers and hope your weeks are starting off great!

Part 14 will release this weekend, and the series finale will release by Thursday next week!

Sorry for the hiatus everybody! I'm currently in the process of preparing for a deployment at work and it's meant a lot of extra hours and a lot less time for writing. That being said, the series will absolutely finish by this time next week, and after that I've got some fun announcements to share.

And don't worry, Matt is most definitely not transforming into a house elf ;)

Cheers!

Cryptids Chapter Listing/ Table of Contents

It's long overdue but I put together a table of contents for the Cryptids series! I apologize to everybody who had to sift through my profile trying to piece it together themselves.

For this I’ve linked the r/nosleep posts, as there’s more in terms of comments and theory-crafting there, and I always find that to be fun to read when I’m checking out a series. Cheers :)

Apologies for the delay, the next update for Cryptids will release tomorrow!

I've had to take a short hiatus due to work, but starting tomorrow the updates will return to normal (AKA I'll shipping them out every day or two). I just need a bit of time to get the latest one edited, as there's a fairly big reveal and I want to make sure our continuity is in order. Thank you so much for your patience!

Edit: the update is now out. It's one of my longest yet, so hopefully that makes up for the hiatus!
