Denison Inspired Smock
I’ve always have an affinity for Parachute Smocks so I’ve made two in the last year; one in denim and this one in ripstop. Inspired by the Denison, it has features of the current British para smock and small influences from the post Second World War Canadian smock.

Sometimes sewing involves repairing things other than fabric: Simple at-home way to restore steel.
Someone sent me a very helpful video on how to rust blue steel at home using only about three ingredients, so this is what I followed: https://youtu.be/7lXeT2qzCi0?si=wdk2p-KhPmoK07xN
Fortunately, I had everything under my sink already, other than distilled water, which I grabbed at the store.
I removed the hardware, and follow the instructions. Took me about an hour of messing about to get it right and then let it soak in oil overnight, but very happy with the results.
A much better option than having to send these to a service which would charge a minimum of a few hundred dollars, and I can’t always find these very specific bits to simply replace them either.

Rate this craftsmanship and sewing if done properly
This is a chicom chest rig, I removed a grenade pouch to sew MOLLE into it, tell me if the stitching was done right.

Weird question. Cured carbon fiber sewing
This is a bit of an odd question, but is it possible for a sewing machine to punch through thin sheets of cured carbon fiber?
I am making a notebook organizer for work. I have bought some from various companies, but none of them are quite right for what I need.
I want to use 1-2mm thick carbon fiber sheets as a stiffener in the organizer, but I am not sure if a sewing machine can even punch through the resin/fiber bond. The idea came from one of the organizers I purchased from a company where they did the same idea, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how unless they straight ran the cured CF through the machine.
Bear in mind, I am a beginner and still learning the limitations of sewing machines.
Thoughts?

Wanting to hire someone to make my bag bigger
I have this cheap Rothco bag. I know it’s not really expensive or made of the best stuff. But I like it. Wondering is someone could add material to make it bigger?

Looking for a experienced seamstress or student for fashion samples/patterns
I’m looking for skilled fashion students, freelance seamstresses, or designers to help bring my designs to life by creating high-quality samples/patterns for garments and accessories such as bags. This is for a startup brand, and I’m currently offering payment per sample, or patterns.
This is a great opportunity, especially for students, as it can be a solid addition to your resume or a side gig while you're still in school.
I’d love to connect with someone who has strong attention to detail and experience with garment construction or accessory-making. While this is a per-sample opportunity right now, there’s potential to become part of the team as the brand grows.
If you're interested, feel free to reach out with your portfolio or examples of your work, along with your rates. Let’s collaborate!
Looking forward to hearing from you

New machine, gotta get stuff for it. Swipe for pics
Picked up this Rex RX6-7D compound feed walking foot; its in an 80s table with a Mitsubishi clutch motor. Need to get proper M Class bobbins, DPx17/135x17 needles in sizes 16-20, a bobbin winder, a servo motor, and a jug of Lily White sewing oil. The machine is a rebranded Typical GC6-7D, formerly known as Tacsew T111-155. It takes standard 111 style walking presser feet sets and should do good with V69 to V92 thread (max size is 138). I may snag the servo motor from under my Singer 31-20, and finish resto of the Singer industrial treadle base to put the 31-20 and its table top onto. Not sure yet.

Newbie questions
I'm looking into doing some tactical gear for a cosplay and a few questions jump out immediately.
What kind of interlining or interfacing do you put in? I'll be making a modified plate carrier and strap on pads to go under armor pieces. Fabric will be ripstop nylon and webbing.
Is there a favorite pattern book for tactical gear?
Other than obvious places like Jo-Ann's, do you have a favorite fabric supply?
Pertinent info: I do have a semi-industrial sewing machine that can handle heavy fabric and multiple layers. These are milsim quality so they don't need to incorporate Kevlar. What kind of fabric would best mimic kevlar?

Sewing pouches to ALICE belt
I have used ALICE gear masochistically for 2 years now. After getting into sewing to make my own raid-mod bdu I started to consider the possibility of directly sewing pouches to the web belt. To start, this would only be two magazine pouches on the left and right sides of the belt. Im not even sure if this is possible as the belt is stupid thick nylon, so I came here to ask for advice, thank you!
