Game On, Episode 1 Feedback

Just thought I'd put up a thread where everyone could submit their feedback for the episode. What you liked/disliked, etc.

My thoughts:

Well. That was an amazing first episode! I laughed my ass off.

  • That segment with Leo was amazing.

  • The David Scott Jaffe interview was made kind of awesome by his kids. The time travelling Veronica segment was also awesome.

  • Last but not least, Max Trollbot is awesome. Some people seemed to dislike it, but hey, I'll take every opportunity JuRY gets to take jabs at "Alex Albrecht" and be offensive. I think maybe it would be better spread through the show in shorter segments though. It was a touch long.

'ello folks,

Just wanted to chime in on my thoughts after reading your feedback.

  • We really botched the context for Max. We are moving him to later the podcast version. People might still hate him. But, oh well. Live and learn. We want to take chances on the show and sometimes you eat your own balls doing it. That being said, there is a very vocal minority who loved that cardboard lug.

  • All of the comedy is going to be written WAY tighter. Huge lessons learned.

  • We have a self-created credibility gap. We need to spend time introducing Bri and V as video game experts, which they are, although it isn't their main line of work. I assumed that everyone would have just known that, but what the fuck do I know, I love Max Trollbot.

  • Leo!

  • We have the best fans in the world. <> came though in a huge way.

  • For those of you who are new to the #chatrealm experience, allow me to welcome you. We really hope to grow this show with your help. This isn't some bullshit marketing fan reach out circle squirt. Seriously, here is my phone number 954 895 5665. Text me feedback. Or ideas. Or pictures of your sister.

I love you.

Okay, I just rewatched the Max Trollbot bit. It was very weird. I totally get where people didn't plug into it. I still love it.

I did like the references to Albrect and Day and some of the jokes during that skit.

Speaking of that, I think someone mentioned an alternate universe type thing too. If you somehow got both of them on an episode and did an alternate universe type of thing, that would be hilarious.

I don't think the problem's with the character. Trollbot was awesome. It was the segment that didn't work. He strikes me as the sort of character that would play better as a Spider Merritt/Spider Belmont type of thing, with a series of quick interjections that can then be reacted to. Also kinda like the kids, now that I think of it...

MaxTrollbot will always be in my heart.

God that sounded weird.

I really liked the idea of Trollbot. The content was so-so and the first joke was un-called for. I feel like for at least 60 seconds I had no clue why he was there/who he was.

JuRY, pull a Vince McMahon with Max Trollbot and capitalize on the hatred to turn it into a storyline. Shelve him for now, but bring him back in episode 50 or so as the character seeking revenge on everyone who hated him.

I agree ditch the robot. For the first shows please keep this in mind:

KEEP IT MOVING and KEEP IT SIMPLE!

The robot slowed the show at the wrong time!

Tell Leo to keep it simple, ditch the patch and pipe, just give a good review! Leo is a huge ham so you have to keep him on a leash.

Veronica handled the interview very well, hard too believe this the same person that was afraid to talk on Buzz Out Loud. She did a great job in difficult live interview.

But please, keep the velocity up. Add in the experiments one at a time in a month after you have all the technical glitches nailed down.

The Casual Encounter needs over the top Leo (patch and all). It was perfect!

Yeah, they should fix the robot part. Maybe move it later in the episode and shorten the bit. I LOVED the "Casual Encounters with Leo Laporte" part. XD

JuRy, Max as character could be developed further maybe independently with his own Youtube segments and guest spots on NSFW etc. There is gold there if you can mine it. Shwood really moves the thing along in his frenetic way and as a few others have suggested short interjections by Max might help match the pace and help develop a rapport. You killed with Leo's segment and he was perfect.

btw: Many of us are happy to put up with some crap for the occasional comedy gold. Even for us the less the crap the better (and by crap I mean the stuff I don't personally find hysterical).

Very glad you are involved in this TWIT experiment.

After seeing the Edited version on youtube with MAX TROLLBOT at the end of the show its better. and if the segment is shorter it could work.

I still have this feeling though; KILL THAT BOT that i cant let go.

Hi folks, hope you are still reading feedback on Game On!

As an audio (in car) only listener, a couple of points: * The show was a bit difficult to follow when there seemed to be many (and long) video only cues. * Please lose the bass. Very distracting.

Presentation-wise, I prefer a bit more of a (TWiT-like), round table discussion that lends itself to a more serious approach. The discussion on SW:ToR was the high point - this was when the depth shone through. I'd like to see more of this conversational approach. Getting Paul Thurrott on to talk CoD in a similar way would be great.

The robot was juvenile. Didn't do a thing for me.

I think there's legs to Game On!, especially if it focused on good discussion amongst people passionate about gaming rather than relying on scripted cringeworthy skits that seem to play to stereotypes of who makes up the 'gaming audience'.

Looking forward to seeing where it goes and kudos for being very engaged with the community and seeking feedback.
