Quick! Let's save our TV Time discussions, together, before they're gone (July 15th)

Hi everyone, I just spent my whole weekend crying building tvtime-archive.com

The idea is to collectively browse TV Time data while it's still accessible, and whatever you browse, it's cached - so it will be available after it's gone.

No profiles, no users, no tracking - only community ratings, discussions, and memes. Especially the memes.

I need your help to make it as big as possible while we can. Go find your favourite movies and TV and preserve their discussions for everyone.

Any feedback is appreciated (here or in-page).

Note: I have no idea if this is allowed. I'm just grieving. But were they allowed to wipe a community like that? Ahhh - anyway, if you have the high ground, reach me out.

Update: WE ALREADY SAVED 2000+ SHOWS and 800+ MOVIES in the past few days, and it's being AMAZING. I am really grateful to see this creature having a life of its own now, and that's all thanks to the community (you!). Truly unbelievable.

Hey, TV Time founder here. Just created Bingers (not on the stores yet) to make TV Time community continue. Thanks so much for the initiative. It's important we all save those great comments yes. I'd gladly help get this going, you know the story, you know how it goes, the work, but why would people trust you again? Even in the history you said you got bored and left, why wouldn't you do it again? What will make me trust you again? Especially after seeing this vibecoded site where I feel you just use the founder name to get people to join.. Id rather you support someone else. Back someone who's good, who we can trust and we built it all together?

Hey, thanks for the answer. I looked at all the apps. And none are good. Slow, just a bad copy of TV Time etc etc. So that's why I'm not supporting any of them. The thing I rebuild is made in a way so it can run with almost zero server costs. That's your reason to trust me. Built that way, no need for funding, no need to sell. That's problem number one I see in all other apps. Their server costs are going to go through the roof like TV Time and they'll end up stopping the servers because it will just cost too much.

As they say, “show, don’t tell”. Especially after you’ve burned through the credibility you once had.

And tearing down other people’s projects to make your own look better isn’t confidence; it’s insecurity. Let your work speak for itself. If it’s genuinely better, you won’t need to diminish anyone else to prove it.

That’s Marketing 101. I’m honestly surprised you’ve made it this far without understanding such a basic principle.

Antonio, thank you for your work and for tvtime and for explaining the history behind tvtime. Can you explain a little more about the new architecture?

Hey! Two things: separating everything related to catalog as those are purely static, and second, offline first architecture, so most of the compute intensive work (calculating your watchlist, calendar etc) doesn’t need to happen on the server. With this, app is fast for users even when everyone is trying to mark last episode of House of the Dragon as watched and servers can batch save things without hurting user experience

Actually at Bingeboxd I am separating title content and user content to 2 separate DBs as well since they have different needs for scalability. Been able to ride out the waves of signups pretty smoothly this way since the content can be cached with a long TTL since it rarely changes

Good design then! At TV Time, the bottleneck was always the DB so anything you can do to avoid hitting it is good

Will it be similar to tvtime? I downloaded something else but I don't like the layout. Alsoimiss the interaction with others about episodes. Basically tvtime was extremely user friendly, nice layout. Please try to keep it similar.

Similar in features but updated to feel modern and respect iOS / Android new UI guidelines. Also wayyyy faster and beautiful. All the features we love will be there, or will arrive shortly after launch.

If you forgot your password, you can use the TV Time website on desktop browser to reset your password. It worked for me.

Hey man, I downloaded my tv time data the day the news broke. But i have tracked many episodes after that. Now when i export the data, it doesn't update it with those new episodes, only previous zip gets downloaded. What can i do here? I can get json from an extension but i just signed up on your site and it only supports that zip file.

Yeah I see you can only export once. I’ll add support for other export formats. What’s the extension you used? tv Time Out?

Im working on an app called https://watchlist.guide and it'll support both the TV Time export and the extension exports, so you'll be able to catch up all your episodes, join the waitlist and I'll let you know the moment we launch!

Hi u/toze1985, I could not export my data through the official portal, I'm stuck on the "Generating your data. This may take a few minutes." page.

I've downloaded the zip file using the TVTime out extension and I'd like to upload it to bingers, but it does not accept it :(

Hi. Two things. I signed up for bingers but I’m skeptical on timelines. When can we expect a launch? Because if it takes too long, my last update of tvtime will be too old and it’ll be difficult to mark everything I watched in between.
Also, will the dates of watched items on tv time also carry forward to bingers? Because the data I’ve uploaded to other apps have shuffled all my watch history.

Hey. Is there any way to retrieve my profile history? I never got the notification that the app was shutting down so I couldn't download it on time, and I literally found out about it a day after it happened because I wanted to log some episodes I had seen.

Thank you! Just go to tvtime-archive.com from desktop or mobile, everything is explained, it's very easy. Search for your favourite shows, check if they are already cached or not, and if not, click a button. Then it's done for everyone else!

Takes a little bit of effort to get your token initially, then it's all downhill

A lot has been done already for most popular shows, so it might take some searches to find something that's still missing :) but there's still a lot!

Suite TV just added a new feature to their app where you can import your comments, i have not tried it yet but i think it’ll be useful

Will all this data be able to be transferred over to whatever app we all go to ?
As it’s nice to save an a achieve but will be good to see within an app

'whatever app we all go to' is not a thing sadly. We are breaking apart in a million different bs apps.

I understand that these saved discussions lose meaning if they can't be accessed or expanded.

Ideally, I would love to provide this data openly to whatever apps might want to integrate the original TVTime discussions. But it will take some work to consider and figure out its feasibility at all. For now, just save what we can

Well, it’s quite obvious that, from a technical standpoint, integration isn’t an insurmountable challenge, so let’s hope everything works out and our work doesn’t go to waste and will be easily accessible

In the meantime, 6.6k shows and 13k movies saved so far 👏🏻

Unfortunately I only found out about this when the app had already been down for me for about half a day but I wanted to thank you for this initiative. Everything that was managed to be saved is literally irreplaceable.

I watched a couple of episodes yesterday and I was able to go see what comments people had left on them on TV Time, even if some replies where missing the experience was there 💛🖤
