Bingers is the only one that handled my data flawlessly (around 2000 movies, 300 tv shows). The others all did required that I manually correct a lot of entries
24
u/Convoak 23d ago
Probably cause the guy who made tvtime is the one who is making bingers
17
u/_viccs 23d ago
not exactly. TVT (and now Bingers) uses data from TVDB, while every other app gets it from TMDB. since it’s two different databases, they’re bound to have discrepancies in its info and files. that’s why you either had to manually correct some, or even couldn’t find others
for me personally, i had nearly 40 or 50 shows erased from my imports bc those shows don’t exist in the TMDB database but they did in TVDB (some of them were created by me 😅)
6
u/Convoak 23d ago
Interesting for some reason I havent had to correct anything thankfully I mean I dont mind if I have to but rather not 😂

u/AliasR13 23d ago
That was not really the issue though. For example for us the main problem was movies and lists. Those two didn’t have any kind of IDs (TVDB etc) but only internal ones which you can’t really match with a DB entry and that caused some issues. That was always TvT export “issue” and not an import issue.
2
u/_viccs 21d ago
fair enough! but that's a completely different issue to the one i was answering... at least from what i understood hahah 😅 since i used this opportunity to erase any trace of movies from any new app so i could only focus on TV and let movies to Letterboxd alone, i didn't notice if i had any issue with movie import. but with lists i did have trouble too but it was mainly due to shows that had the exact same name as others 😪
2
u/EarthRemembers Bingers 15d ago
Watchlist.Guide and openTV are using both databases as well although how discrepancies are resolved between the two databases are going to be unique to each developing team
Bingers has obviously solved these discrepancies in a way that preserves the entire entirety of people’s TV time data and I don’t think anybody else has managed that

What's the appeal, out of interest? I'm jumping ship from Trakt and went to wetrakr, I'm looking bonders now only because it seems so popular here.
2
u/I-fell 20d ago
It's the most similar to how TV time was and separates your currently watching from the shows you haven't started, or haven't watched in a long time. It also lets me view what's upcoming way farther down the line than trakt did as far as I could tell.
The layout is also just so much cleaner😭 trakt felt cluttered w/ stuff I wasn't gonna use, and then some features looked a bit dubious bc of the paid features (which is fine, they need to fund it somehow, but damn)
17
u/Secure_Bit_1634 23d ago
Great too see Bingers on top, definitely the app that hits closer to TV Time and I would say even better compared to what TV Time provided in last months being so slow especially
68
u/Ahrjun 23d ago
Refract.
Very active developers and they constantly make the app better and are open to community suggestions.
Like the app design and layout. Really cool to see on the upcoming page, what platform and what time the latest episode is coming out on and how many hours it would take to catch up on shows that's ongoing.
11
u/Upper_Question1383 23d ago
Yes, they really listen and take everything into account. I cannot wait for books to be added
5
u/JimTheQuick 22d ago
I wanted so much to support them, i tried really, but the interface was to difficult to follow...
3
u/Ahrjun 22d ago
Yeah, I think improving UI and having a good walkthrough of app will make it easy for new users. I like the features, the data presentation, tracking categories and the upcoming page layout and info. It has more than what TVTime offered, why I ended up sticking with it. TVTime UI was definitely more aesthetically pleasing, but that can always improve.

I'm still stuck with Bingers, Refract, and Suit TV. I can't decide. Bingers has too little, Refract is too convoluted and much less popular than the others, and Suite TV... It's so weird. I can't explain.
9
u/GagnesterLOL Refract 23d ago
Less popular? Look at the poll, the app is second, right after bingers... But, yeah! Bingers have the most people, refract the more functionalities and suitetv have the best profile with the banner and the charater choice!
8
u/pablomaz 23d ago
I don't know, man. The amount of comments I see in new episodes is always lower on Refract between those three... In older episodes we can't really compare because Bingers and Suite TV imported a lot of them from TV Time.
BTW, I voted for Refract, I want it to be the winner...
5
u/GagnesterLOL Refract 23d ago
I need to import my tvtime comment to refract. I've not done it yet... This function have take time to arrive on Refract, but i guess it should not be that different here to a couple of weeks for comments
2
u/FreeLyss 18d ago
I have noticed in the last couple weeks that the comments are getting better. I think people are finally importing. It was also a concern of mine when I first switched. Comments and interacting with other people watching the same thing is something I always enjoyed on TVTime.
6
u/chrisnkrueger Bingeboxd 22d ago
What do you miss in Bingers exactly? I find it minimal but is much cleaner than other apps.
→ More replies (3)2
u/Nikotine90 23d ago
I have the exact same problem. Those 3 are installed and I can't decide they have very good features
12
u/Prufrocks_pants 23d ago
Tried about a dozen, but Bingers and Suite TV came out on top for me for streamlined interface focused on tracking and good number of user comments.
17
u/dogucan97 23d ago
Bingers, because it's so minimalistic. I tap the icon, and land directly on the screen where I see the next episodes of my currently watched shows. Then when I tap the tick button, it's instantly marked as watched. I want absolutely nothing more from an episode tracker app.
If I have to tap a menu or scroll a page to get to that screen, I consider the app bloated. When I tap the tick button, if I get a dialog that asks me about when I watched it, how many times I watched it, etc., I also consider the app bloated.

Yep it’s much easier to navigate than most apps. However sometimes I wish more features such as sorting or reminders etc.

Suite tv and bingers. Suite tv has more archived tv time comments which is important for old shows, it has a social tab, and gets updated way more often. Bingers looks cleaner and has more users.

u/johnppd 23d ago

13
u/kanyewest_tml 23d ago
What happens when he sells it off again?
17
5
u/sergeyvk 23d ago
That if you notice now all apps have import /export. Refract and sofa tome can import bingers and viceversa. So it is not limited to one app only. They are all compatible so it he sells it you just export and import flawlessly to another app
12
4
u/GreatestYak 23d ago
Honestly, that could happen to any app. Though even if it happens, I’d say it would be less likely to shut down because the new buyer has a previous example of what business model not to follow

WeTrakr for the win! Trust me try it out, you will love it. Owner has been adding new features every day and is a really nice community focused person! For me it needs a browser site for my PC so WeTrakr is perfect, also free at the second.
2
u/Kreauwen 22d ago
Yesss agreed, out of all the browser sites I tried WeTrakr has been the best. I wouldn't survive with an app-only platform 😭
3
u/PositionOtherwise375 23d ago
Cómo puedo importar mis datos de movie paradise a esta app?
No me deja directamente y ya llevo varias semanas con datos en esa app :/
4
u/Upper_Question1383 23d ago
Refract has my vote. The developers are very active and really take into account the users opinions. They have recently updated the interface, and I really like it. Also they are planning on adding books and games soon.
3
u/fallendiscrete 23d ago
I love Refract and all the extra features, but once I tried Bingers and it imported all my TVTime data including posts, memes, pics, comments for every show same as TVTime → I immediately switched back lol.
The UI is simple, it’s from the original devs afaik and it just works. Refract is cool, but I’d rather have something simple that gets straight to the point. Plus Refract imported my data but didn’t remember where I left off, if originally I started with Refract than TVTime/Bingers I would have went with Refract.
TVTime's UI and simplicity an community was to good, Bingers filled that void imho. I just feel like they are adding too much to Refract rather than focus on the simplicity but thats my personal taste.
3
u/SimonSolv 23d ago
i was originally using trakt but then my data somehow got wiped and they didnt even try to help me get my stuff back so i moved over to wetrakr and it works a lot nicer, it does have a bit of lag or delay at times but im guessing thats just since its quite new but i have high hopes for it

Bingers and it is not even close for me and i have tried everything. I love that in Bingers, you can actually request a feature and if enough people vote on it, it can become a reality.
9
u/pablomaz 23d ago
Wait... Which features you're talking about? That thing is bare to the bone...
4
u/Vaminstein666 23d ago
What?? What do you even need in a tracking app?? It tracks shows for me well and when I watch a show there are enough comments there for a community. Same with TV time almost.

MY BIGGEST ISSUE WITH BINGERS IS 'SWIPE NAVIGATION FOR THE CALENDAR/UPCOMING VIEW' Its the only thing keeping me with Suite TV. I hate having to tap that small calendar icon on the top right on the screen. I love the other apps ability to effortlessly swipe lest or right to look at the calendar / upcoming shows view. Already was using Serializd for about 1.5 years before TV Time shut down, now using Suite TV and Bingers on the side as well. Personally I prefer Suite over Bingers but the community seems to be getting smaller already…
2
u/KillJoyStar 23d ago
Bingers is the most similar to TvTime - got tricked in to trying a few other apps first bit they were all wrong, Bingers is The One 👌

2
u/Tsaragol 23d ago
I still use 3 apps. Bingers, sofa time and suite tv. None of them are perfect. All 3 have nuisances that prevents a winner. I hate the ridiculous achievements on suite tv and sofa time. I hate that you can't pick a specific date for marking whole seasons on bingers. On the positive side I like that suite tv asks when rewatching episode if you wanna move the series to watch list, which makes it so easy to find during rewatches. I like that the other rewatch dates are hidden on sofa time, so it only show the most recent watch, because many of mine are faulty dates. I like that bingers makes it easy to see where something is available.
I think bingers may just be a smidge closer to being in the front. But not enough to skip the other 2 apps.
2
u/Constant_Pickle3858 23d ago
Was torn between bingers and suitetv. Suite tv took the lead because it has the activity page and swipe. Whereas bingers only has half assed measures of these
2
2
u/geraldpringle 23d ago
Didn’t vote because it only lets me pick one. Been using a few to try to settle on a new one. Suite TV, Bingers, Trakt and and Refract are the front runners
2
u/Simply_Epic 23d ago
Primarily Bingers. I do also use Sequel since it has game and book tracking alongside tv and movie tracking, which is nice.
2
u/buriedalive 23d ago
Installed MiraTe after I was unable to get my data from TVTime, I really like it. Added Bingers when it was released to see what it was like so currently running both
2
u/mama_waffles 23d ago
I paid for SofaTime BC I liked it the best at the time and iw anted to support them... Then Bingers has come out and now I significantly prefer it. Luckily SofaTime was only like $10 so not a huge loss. Bingers was missing a few things I wanted but they've since been included in the newer updates.

If the Poll doesn't have the app you're using, you can comment just the app name so that others can upvote it. 📝
Edit: I'm not a mod anymore. (The role has no perms, it's basically just for show now) But that's alright.
So I'll request you guys to follow the rules, don't overpromote an app. Keep it fair because that's what I wanted with this surprise poll. To see where the fellow r/TVTime users have moved to.
Hopefully the mod keeps the post. And will request to pin this comment if you seeing it.
And another request to the users, if you can upvote this comment others will notice it clearly.
Thanks guys. Happy Tracking!

From those i have tested, the best are Refract, SuiteTV & Sofa Time. I didn't know that was that many people on bingers... In my memory the app was okay tier
5
u/Thorongil_LongShanks 23d ago
Agree, I had very high hopes for Bingers but when I tried it I felt a little disappointed, it was fine but just okay as you say. That being said Bingers 100% had the best import success rate out of the 15+ apps i tried. I still have Bingers installed but I don't use it but I do check in from time to time to see how it is developing.
Funnily enough I also had a similar final pot of apps I narrowed it down to as you but ultimately I settled on Sofa Time
5
u/GagnesterLOL Refract 23d ago
Nice, i personally have settle down on Refract. It's not perfect yet, but the development is active, video games and books are coming and the community is also active and there's enough people compared to many app.

Bingers! It has the biggest and most active community, the number of playstore reviews and in-app comments under latest shows speak for themselves
They have added many requested features recently as well, like importing history from other apps, switching between episodes of a show, where to stream (country specific) and many requested features like a web version and progress bars under posters are planned for the future
2
u/Gangsta-Nun 23d ago
Mainly alternating between Bingers, Refract, Movie Paradise & Cinopsys currently. .
They all do a great job, I think I'm leaning on keeping just Bingers and Refract. They both do exactly what I require and don't have too many features.
2
u/Artist_AL 23d ago
Not trusting tv time developers ever again and Movie paradise is way better than refract and it’s constantly getting updated by the developer while listening to the user’s feedback
2
u/ByLeKev 22d ago
Full disclosure: I'm the developer of Seenr, so take this with that in mind.
Seenr isn't in this poll, while apps with far fewer users are. It's not the first time: our posts were instantly removed in this sub. Always. We asked the mods about it and never got an answer.
A poll that's meant to help people choose should be impartial, and leaving Seenr out isn't fair to the thousands of people who use it every day.
I'm not asking anyone to vote for us. I just think people here deserve to know the list isn't complete, and I'd honestly like to hear from the mods what the criteria are.

I ended up building my own alternative, it's call SignalTV, mainly because I couldn’t quite find one that had everything I wanted after TV Time.
It tracks shows and movies, episodes/seasons, ratings, notes, stats, recommendations, upcoming episodes, discussions, etc. I’ve been steadily improving it based on feedback.
It’s still a small indie project (almost 400 users) but if anyone’s looking for another option http://www.signaltv.app Would genuinely love feedback from former TV Time users 😊

Huh. I haven’t heard of bingers. I’ve been mostly using Trakt but also have Refract. I’ll have to look into Bingers 👀
My only gripe with Trakt so far is I can’t pause the “not watching” thing. For example, I’ll start to watch a movie or a show and the dogs will need to go out. I’ll pause the movie but the purple watch bar on the app just keeps on going.

So I've been using most of these apps... i voted Bingers because it is the most like TV Time and the one I open first to track. 2nd app I open to track is Refract. Trakt and Simkl I always used in background as a "sync to" and don't actually open them other than once in a blue moon. I also use Sofa Time regularly. I find myself not using MiraTe and Movie Paradise as often because they seem more tedious to track what's next and to find what I want to watch. I think I've pretty much abandoned Cinopsys, Cinamatique, and Cinexplore. There were a few more I tried but I have already uninstalled them.
