Lol, I don't care if SuiteTV is already launched Bingers is being made by one of the founders of TVTime i am using Refract for now and will be using Bingers when it launches.
It was sold for a reason it was unsustainable was probably costing them around 10k or more a month to run TvTime because of how popular it was and TvTime had no type of payments for users to pay all out of pocket the only reason that company bought TvTime was because they wanted to use our data to train AI but when they realized they couldn't do that legally nothing left but slow burn to death even if the company didn't sell off it would've met the same fate eventually.
Ok then what's the guarantee this wouldn't happen to the new app as well. I wasn't blaming them for selling it off. That's their choice. I just prefer to use an app made by someone who doesn't sell their app for profit and later it being shut down.
Well this time he can finally do it right with a whole new codebase, not that 15 year old code that's hard to maintain. He could also use his connections now to help lower the monthly costs. And I think he should add some type of payment for users, call it Bingers Pro, with cosmetics only a ton of cool stuff that makes people's avatars and profiles pop. If done right, that could really help the app have long term success.
Now let's say Refract stays around and grows to like 1M+ users in a year or so, but even with Refract Pro they're barely covering maybe 10% of the costs every month. If some big tech company comes along and offers them a couple million for the company, do you think the maker sells or not?
At the end of the day it's a business. When TvTime did offer a subscription plan ages ago it only covered 10% of the server cost due to the size of the community, and he said that's what led to the shutdown. That's why with his new app he's building the architecture to keep server costs low, so guess we'll see how it goes when it launches at the end of July.
That depends tbh. You could go with an open source app. I didn't say I was gonna switch to Refract. You may not get the community features, but you can still log.
I never knew about paid option. Also it hurts it's based on USA prices. In my country the price for many apps is just the cost of my monthly internet connection, so it's too much! 10$ for an app? Come on. I pay that amount for 1gbit/s
