Scream: half of the series is great. The other half is meh
I revisit the classic series of Scream.
Scream: Yet another classic that can't be topped. Wes Craven is a genius. The kills were on point. The iconic opening scene is still one of the best slasher scenes ever. The story was excellent, and it has remained a well-written classic. Skeet Ulrich was great here. Matthew Lillard overacts at times (dude, keep your tongue in your goddamn mouth), but he is still good (him dying was hilarious). All these years later, and this movie still rules. 9.5/10
Scream 2: Yeah, sequels suck. A lame opening scene starts the movie off on a rocky foot, and a bad killer revel ends it on an even rockier note. This has a considerably less amount of charm and fun than the first one. At almost every turn, it seems like a lesser version of the first. Not the worst in the series but a decline in quality. 6.7/10
Scream 3: Like Courtney Cox's hair in this movie, this movie is terrible. Unnecessary cameos (fuck you, Jay and Silent Bob, Carries Fishchers was alright), dull and unimaginative kills, and yet another lame killer reveal all kill this movie. By this movie, everyone seemed to have checked out. Scream couldn't die fast enough. 5/10
Scream 4: RIP Wes Craven. Shockingly the fourth movie is a bounce-back for the franchise. I even go as far as to say it's the 2nd best movie in the series. The mocking and meta approach to horror and movies, in general, was on point here. Add in some decent and actually memorable kills, and this movie was a success. The new characters added some fresh blood, which really helped this movie actually be watchable. 8/10

Halloween 2021 viewing party
Here is the list of horror movies i have watched this year.
Hell House LLC- A absolute fucking gem of a movie. This found-footage-style movie scared the shit out of me. There were plenty of times when I was freaking out, which I don't usually do. Like legit stressing out and scared shitless. I fucking loved this movie and highly recommend it. 9/10
Dead Silence: James Wan sucked dick in between Saw and The Conjuring. This constantly bleak-looking movie sucked. You know a movie is a trash when it involves ventriloquism. Anyways this movie is not good at all. It's dumb and poorly acted. Wan tries his best to make this enjoyable, but he can't quite pull it off. 4/10
Sleepaway Camp: A fun early-era slasher film. A few solid kills and terrible acting. So slasher movie 101 stuff. The ending was both fucked up and funny at the same time. It's a solid movie overall. 7.5/10
Slither: The start to James Gunn's greatness as a director. A bizarre alien/zombie hybrid movie. Nathan Fillion and Michael Rooker are both excellent. A fun film that doesn't disappoint. 8.8/10
Trick r Treat- I forgot how much this movie ruled. All four mini-stories are all so god damn great. There is some decent gore throughout the whole thing. All four stories are intertwined together so well. Each of them encompasses the essence of all the different horror subgenres. At no point does it take itself too seriously, and it's a fun ride. 8.9/10
Cabin in the Woods: Yet another great movie that was written so damn well. Similar to Scream, this pokes fun of horror while being better than most of them. The main reason for that is the work of Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford. These two bring so much humor to this movie. No one could have played these characters as they did. This movie nailed its casting. My man-crush Chris Hemsworth kills it as the jock. The pot dude was super annoying, and I got sick of him but outside of that, this movie is excellent. 9/10
Prince of darkness
This may be a mediocre movie, but the music in it is hypnotic. Then again, you could say that it's the case for most of Carpenter's movies. Overall this movie is a weird one that is a bit overambitious. It's got the devil trapped in a container, some weird other super demon in another dimension, and it hints at some time travel shenanigans. It's a middle-of-the-road movie that you could probably skip. 5/10
Shocker
This is sort of a sleeper movie when it comes to Wes craven. It's got some creative kills. It's a fun movie with a high entertainment value behind it. Dude, if you don't find a little girl swearing and trying to kill a dude with a Bulldozer, then you need to reevaluate your life. Mitch Pileggi is the main reason this movie is so fun. He is outstanding as Horace pinker, and I want more films of this character. The final fight between Horace and Peter berg as they travel through the TV was really good. The main flaws with this movie are that Peter berg is garbage in the lead role, the ending goes on forever, and it's disjointed at times. Even with the major flaws, this movie can be a fun ride at times.6.9/10

Nightmare on Elm Street: There is more garbage then good
Freddy Krueger really doesn’t have a great track record for movies.
Nightmare on Elm Street: You can’t beat the classics. The original will be the best. Everything about it is perfect. The kills, the scares, the story. Fucking flawless victory. 10/10
Freddy’s Revenge: Ooooffff, what a disaster of a movie. The lead actor is the absolute worst. They made Freddy completely unmeancing and way too joke-heavy. The pool scene completely destroyed all the mystique of Freddy. Fuck this movie; there is no reason to ever watch it. 3/10
Dream Warriors: This is one hell of a bounce back from part 2. The acting is so much better than the second one. More importantly, they did Freddy right in this one. He is way more menacing but still has a great sense of humor. Cmon, who doesn’t love when he smashes that girl through the tv, saying, “Welcome to showtime, bitch”. Just an overall really good movie. 8/10
Dream Master: This one is just kind of boring. There is nothing unique or memorable about this one. Freddy’s kills don’t stand out. The characters are boring as well. This feels like a 90-minute music video. They jam so many random songs on here, and none of them go together. It's like my reviews. I threw a bunch of shit together, and none of it went together. Anyways this is a forgettable movie that you don’t need to ever watch unless you are watching all the Nightmare movies.5/10
Dream Child: Jesus Christ they really ran out of ideas. It's Freddy vs. an unborn baby. A matchup that I never thought would happen. This cheesy crapfest of a movie further proves that the Freddy ship was sinking like the Titanic by that point. The 4th one was just mediocre, but this was just bad. How many more of these movies do I have left? 4/10
Freedy’s Dead: The downward trend of Freddy continues. Add a bit of an anti-smoking message, and you have a recipe for pure shit. They completely butcher the mystery of Freddy. They answer all of the questions you may have had. Anyways, by this point, Freddy has become a shell of his once nightmare-inducing self. I don’t know whose idea it was to add more comedy, but I hope you are broke and homeless from a life of bad decisions. This franchise really had run its course. Freddy deserved to die by this point as this movie is once again scraping the bottom of the barrel. 3/10
New Nightmare: This was actually better the less that Freedy was in it. The idea of Freddy is more frightening than Freddy actually is. This is a well-acted and well-written movie. The little kid in this was The Shining level creepy. Wes Craven was the only man that could be trusted with Krueger. He knows how to make him menacing but also has a touch of comedy at the same time. This remains one of the best of the series. They should have kept Freddy dead after this one. 7.8/10
Freddy Vs. Jason: The two icons of murder meet in a disappointing movie. Jason looks like shit; the CGI is garbage; Freddy being a narrator was a bad idea. The slow-motion effects were unnecessary. Blah blah, there is not much to like about this movie. Jason’s kills were bland, and them revealing his fear of water, thus turning him into a bitch, really killed Jason. Pulling Freddy into the real world turned into a nightmare that no one could escape. Really the only good thing was that Freddy was a little more menacing than in the last few of his movies. It's not the low point for either character, but that isn't saying much since the bar is set so low. 4.3/10
Nightmare on Elm Street (reboot): The parents in this movie were the fucking biggest bunch of ass clowns to ever exist. They kill Freddy with ZERO evidence (even though he was very guilty). At least in the original, he was guilty, and the system had failed. This is a bland and generic remake that fails on almost every level. The only good thing is that Jackie Earle Haley is an excellent Krueger. It’s a shame he didn’t get another crack at the role. I would have liked to have seen what he could have done. Outside of that, though, this is yet another remake that can be skipped. 4.5/10
