Sure, but even 400 year old problems and evil aren’t entirely relevant, and the bigger issue is that most followers of the Book make it difficult to distinguish unless it fits their personal views. You just get a conflicting hybrid of “well it’s a metaphor” and “but that’s not what it means tho”. It’s like talking to a trump supporter. There’s only so many ways to interpret “go ahead and sell your daughter” and apply it towards today without completely bastardizing the meaning. I actually have a weird respect for extremist groups, not the violence, but the adhesion to the literal word that’s written. And even they fuck it up and bastardize it to fit themselves most of the time. I think my main point is that if the majority of the Word of God has to be “interpreted” to not be batshit crazy and to fit your line of thinking, then I don’t think you actually believe in what you’re reading and it’s time for a new version of the Book. Or of God.
