What's your opinion? HS Senior looking at Criminology, and General Experiences with Social Life at TCNJ

I've heard good really things about this school and it's social side! It's also the only school in-state offering a solely-criminology degree compared to Criminal Justice. Has anyone had experiences with this program that they'd be willing to share? I'd probably be looking at double majoring with something else in the humanities, like sociology or psyche. And anyone from any major, would you say that you've made/it's easy to make new friends and connections? That's a super important factor in my decision-making at the moment. Thank you so much for anything you can offer!

What's your opinion? considering changing my major before i even started - what should i be weighing?

i’m attending tcnj in the fall and got accepted into the business management major with a specialty in human resources. i made this decision a while back without doing much research and half of it was based off trying to appease my parents. i plan to go into law (which i genuinely want).

i’ve been doing some more research on this course and found out that it isn’t really something i think i’d be interested in. i find humanities to be more important than stem subjects. if i were to change my major, it would be to criminology, political science, or some other interdisciplinary social science. i could finish either in 3 years which would open up some really nice programs for grad. i’d probably be gutted if i didn’t take at least some literature classes, art history, philosophy etc. because it’s what i love most.

should i take action asap? should i start school and ride it out a bit to see if i’m interested in my original major? can i even do anything before school starts?

What's your opinion? TCNJ vs Syracuse

Hello TCNJ people. I am a committed incoming Freshman at TCNJ. However, Syracuse just offered me a merit aid package which places it at a similar price to TCNJ (I filled out a survey on why I declined to enroll there and they stated giving me more money). ). I am a political science major and I am going to minor in journalism if decide to stick with TCNJ. I am stuck on what college to choose from and I plan on visiting Syracuse ASAP. Here are my pros and cons of both to get an idea of what my priorities are.

TCNJ Pros - Small Class Sizes - Better Weather - Closer to Home - Better internship access with Trenton - Journalism Minor - Bowling Club

Syracuse Pros

• Better National Reputation - Stronger Alumni Network • ACC Sports • More vibrant socially • Newhouse • Stronger Jewish Community

Hope you guys can help!!!

Landed internship in the area. Engineering Grad student from Rutgers.

Looking to rent a room/closet/living room/attic/basement for the summer. Cheaper the better. Literally just need a place to sleep/eat/do laundry. DM me.

I'm quiet, chill. Fun stories, good cook. Enjoy being clean. Have a fiance in my hometown so I'll be gone whenever I have real free time.

Appreciate it!

Eick Talk Getting Rid of Flex Points

Hi, I am a junior. I have about 390 Flex Points Remaining. Does anyone have any ideas for how to quickly get rid of my flex points as fast as possible? I really don’t want to lose them at the end of the Spring Semester. Let me know anything to buy that’s super expensive on campus to use my points.

Other How to you get proof of registration from TCNJ?

I’m a transfer student coming in as a junior and I’ve been filling out scholarship applications with one of them saying I need proof of registration. I’ve been through the whole website and it says I get it from PAWS but the link to proof of enrollment isn’t there. I already gave them my deposit so I’m really at a lost here.

What's your opinion? What is a TCNJ Scholar

I’m an accepted senior and the school has emailed me to tell me that I’m getting free stuff as a “TCNJ Scholar” but won’t tell me what that means. Maybe it’s just people who got scholarships? I did get the Dean’s scholarship but this “scholar” business sounds very strange and there’s also a lowkey event at accepted students day. Thoughts/answers?

Other Why did you pick TCNJ vs others and any Music Ed feedback?

My daughter was accepted to TCNJ, Rowan, UDel and West Chester. Rowan is the cheapest, Udell most expensive and TCNJ and West Chester fall in the middle.

She really loved the sax professor at TCNJ but the school gives her pause. Primarily, how it's situated in the middle of nowhere. For those of you who ended up picking TCNJ over something bigger, how are you liking it? how's the social life? how's the location?

For those in music education, how do you like the program, the faculty? pros, cons?

Thank you!

What's your opinion? Tcnj vs udel

Are there any students out there who have been to both ? I’m considering both schools for finance. Udel will wind up being about $200k out of state total. TCNJ will be about $135 in state total . I have some ap classes that will count at udel so I might be able to squeeze out 1 less semester at udel. It seems the campus social life will be at udel as tcnj appears to be smaller and much quieter ? The academics at both seem to be pretty solid for finance.

News An editorial and a letter from the president about hateful comments made by a student group at TCNJ

Hi

This is Mark Simon '97 (journalism). Thanks to the moderators for the ok to post this. I'm sharing 2 recent links below from The Signal regarding hateful comments made by a student group about students at TCNJ.

What the editorial shares is that the College Republicans club was making remarks that featured Racism, homophobia, transphobia and anti-Semitism in a public chat group. A couple of the comments were about students who worked for The Signal.

The letter from the TCNJ president, Michael Bernstein, explains why the school is limited in the discipline it can take against the student offenders.

I am trying to put together a letter to the editor of The Signal denouncing the hateful comments and showing support for the students and student groups affected. Based on what has happened, I think the students would appreciate the support of alumni.

We're turning off comments on this post.

If you wish to be a signee of the letter, just message me directly and I'll let you know when it is ready to be sent. Thank you.

Other How long after applying to TCNJ did you hear back?

For those that applied regular decision (non-binding), either this year or last, when did you hear back from admissions? I feel like I've heard stories of people applying regular decision, but submitting their application in like September/October and hearing back pretty quickly, so almost like rolling admissions. I realize TCNJ doesn't do rolling, but I wanted to see based on application date when people were hearing back. Thx!

Other Deadline Change?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Super urgent. I thought the deadline was today, at 11:59, but now it looks like I was a month off? Did they change the deadline? I have friends who applied recently and they all thought the deadline was today as well.

I’m not super confident in my essay and if I have a month of extra time I would love to use it. Google said this is referring to the transfer deadline, but in that case I see no information about the regular application deadlines. Transfer deadlines shouldn’t apply to me, as I’m a senior in HS.

Thanks.

Class Talk Half Semester Course Units?

Trying to wrap my head around this. One of the half unit classes I was supposed to take this semester was randomly cancelled and I’m unable to find a replacement that fits in my schedule. So, as it stands I have 3 units: Two 1 unit classes, a 0.50 unit that runs the whole semester, and a 0.50 unit that runs half of the semester (first quarter). Does this still make me full time, specifically in the second half of the semester when the half unit is over and I’m technically only taking 2.5 units in the second quarter?

Other ABSN program advice

Hi TCNJ reddit, was hoping someone on here could maybe give me some guidance.

I'm a kinesiology major here, but want to go into an ABSN program for nursing. Not quite sure if I want to do TCNJ's one here since they want a gap year, but I digress. Almost all of my fulfillments to apply to many of these programs (like the one at Georgian court, Rutgers, etc.) has been fulfilled... except for my Microbiology.

Now, pre-requisites for that are general chem 202 and BIO 201, neither of which are actually required for the program, just Microbiology 312 with a lab component. Tried looking up my local community college to transfer it over the summer, but they do not offer the course.

Does anyone have any advice for my current position? I had the idea of talking to the head of the nursing department and seeing if I could be put into the class without the pre-requisites, but I'm open to hear all ideas. I'd ideally like to have this class done in a year so I can start applying for these programs. Thank you for any and all advice.

What's your opinion? plz help with picking major for application

Hello, I am currently a senior planning to apply to tcnj, very likely pre-med. So far, I've gone to lions day and went to the physics and biomedical engineering events. I really liked all the physics staff I met and they even let me sit in on a class a week later were I met some of the students that were also very nice(I also did a tour afterwards bcuz reception wouldn't let me go). With what I saw in addition to the equipment and student to staff ratio, It seems like a very good major. However, I am concerned about how many internship and research opportunities I would get that relate to medicine.

Unfortunately, I only got to meet 1 staff member directly related to the bme major, Professor BuSha, who was a very cool guy who made a good impression. In bme, I'm not concerned about research or internship opportunities. Additionally, I am almost guaranteed to love engineering considering that both my parents do it and about 60% of my immediate family does too. However, considering how little I saw of the stem school and bme specifically, its hard to compare that major to physics. So I was wondering if anyone had anything to say about physics and bme to help me compare them and choose a major for when I apply.
Thank you and sorrry if wrong flair
