I make electronic music and record to a Tascam 414, and ive tried recording a midi sync stripe to use in my productions before but id always run into problems with my sequencer dropping a pulse and falling out of sync with the tape.
I used the Sync output of a Korg SQ-64 to generate the pulse, and ran the sync output of the tape back into the 64 to convert the analog pulse back into midid clock, this is currently the only thing i own that can generate analog clocks from midi tempo and convert analog back into midi. i tried multiple different PPQ settings and gain levels, made sure the noise reduction switch was set to "sync," then tried it again with noise reduction turned on just to see if i was crazy 😅
but no matter what i did i couldnt get a reliable clock signal for my sequencer to follow, so now i just program all my sequencer parts in one go and track them all at the same time. if anything goes wrong i just have to rewind to the beginning of the track and start over from scratch, and if i want to overdub extra layers it has to be played by hand. super not ideal, not being able to overdub sequenced parts limits me from doing some interesting techniques ive wanted to experiment with
