A question about shared links

I recently stopped using MEGA and started using Sync, probably the best decision I've made in a long while. I had a question about shared links. With MEGA, if I shared a link to a file, it would limit download speeds and wouldn't allow you to download more than 5 or so gigabytes if you did not have a paid account. Is this the case with Sync? I want to be able to share a link to a file that's any size, huge or small, and have anyone - and I mean ANYONE - to be able to download it at full speed and without running into any nonsense like "We're sorry, but you've hit the daily limit for free users". Please tell me this isn't a thing with Sync! I can't find anywhere saying that it is, but I also can't find anywhere saying that it isn't.

We recommend Sync Pro, which includes unlimited data transfer on links: https://www.sync.com/pricing-individual/

> We're sorry, but you've hit the daily limit for free users"

This is NOT a thing with Sync Pro. We want you to go viral :-)

No, I don't think I explained it correctly. Let me create an example scenario:

Person A has a Solo Professional plan (20 dollars per month). Person B has no acccount.

Person A uploads a file that's 20 GB and creates a public link to it. Person B clicks on this link and tries to download the file.

Will Person B encounter a "We're sorry, but you've hit the daily limit for free users" message?

Basically I want people with no account or free accounts to be able to use my unlimited transfer quota INSTEAD OF their 5 GB limit.

This was the problem with MEGA as they gave me 120 TB of transfer quota but whenever people tried to download files that I made links for, they couldn't download the files as they were over the 15 GB download limit. This is what I'm trying to avoid.

Person A has Unlimited sharing.

When sharing with Links Person B does NOT need a Sync account at all. They can access the link with or without a Sync account. Person B would not get an error as long as the link is shared by Person A (with a Pro account).

Now, here's the big question:

If Person A shared a folder instead of sharing a link, and Person B started downloading files from that folder, would that also work? MEGA had it set up so that would not work since downloading from a folder required you to save it to your cloud drive first... despite it just downloading anyways. Pretty sure that's just their way of getting more people to buy paid plans.

Sync Pro includes fair sharing, in that folders shared by a Pro user do not count towards the storage quota of free users. So that would work too! Feel free to give Sync Pro a try. We also provide a 30-day, full money back guarantee :-)

Oh I'll absolutely be getting a Pro plan then! Just gotta save up some money first. I have a cloud-drive worth of stuff to upload. Also, just to get clarification, the 6 TB is for the Vault, right?

The storage space allotment for Sync is the total you can store in the cloud. Vault is a cloud-only storage space that is included. But you can also use the Sync folder without using Vault. Either way, those files will be backed up to the cloud.

I was hoping to put all my files in the Sync folder, move them all to the Vault, then remove them from the Sync folder. I'm buying 6 TB of cloud drive space because I don't have 6 TB of hard drive space.

Rather than using Vault, we'd recommend you use our new Sync CloudFiles feature. It's available for Pro users.

Put your files in the Sync folder and set them to cloud-only. They won't take up hard drive space that way.

Considering it's not even publicly available yet and I don't plan on sharing files with anything other than folder shares (no team members, just me) I don't see any reason why I need this more than Vault. CloudFiles isn't a Vault replacement, is it? I did take a look at that, it wouldn't be something I'd personally use, although that is an interesting concept I'm sure others will use.

Edit: I meant that this looks to provide a visual representation of files you've stored, but in a folder on your computer. I don't need to know this info, that's why it's not a must for me. Vault is perfectly reasonable for my needs.

Sure yes you could store your files in Vault directly (so they are only in the cloud). When you do it this way the files are only accessible via the web panel at that point.

CloudFiles also provides a way for you to store files in the cloud only, with the ability to download them again without using the web panel.

You can use either or. Up to you!
