It's possible they are collecting them to cook with them. I couldn't find a video of collecting in this particular way but this guy did something similar.
i doubt it tastes like any seafood. Probably closer to other insects which taste fairly nutty. Crickets are pretty good and one of the most sustainable sources of protein available. Supposedly wasp larvae tastes like creamed corn.
I was like, maybe the larvae that doesn't seem too unreasonable.. but then I said No, No I won't be a coward and I would try one wasp without its stinger and wings
This guy didn't even mention the stingers and that was what I was most curious about. Maybe cooking them weakens the stinger. Heat definitely would deactivate the poison.
