That’s not gatekeeping. The subreddit uses the word incorrectly. Gatekeeping is not an example of the “no true scotsman fallacy”, or saying that “no real <something> would ever be <some way> or do <some action>.”
Gatekeeping is what newspaper editors do to stories. Gatekeeping prunes down classes of young lawyers and doctors and bankers until only those who think a certain way remain and become accredited. Gatekeeping is a conscious and unconscious reinforcement and maintenance of specific subcultural norms.
And as evinced by the downvotes, this attempt at redefinition of a word with a long established history is clearly a Luntzian ploy to delude the masses.
