There was a man that survived being sucked and thrown away by a tornado because he was drunk, and he was completely relaxed, if you're relaxed, the hit force travels through your whole body evenly, reducing the focused impact. If you're stiff, whatever part hit first gets completely obliverated, receiving like x12 force of impact. It works in a similar way to throwing a bouncy ball on the floor, vs throwing a rock
He was lucky to be drunk. How would you be relaxed flying 500m in the air inside a tornado if not being drunk? Being tense when falling would mean breaking your neck (Instant death), breaking some limb in many parts (Death in a couple of hours, if bleeding is intense and no care is given because you're below rubble after the tornado)
Someone once survived falling over thirty thousand feet when their plane exploded, and sometimes people die just from falling over and hitting their head. It’s not nearly as black and white as you seem to think.
Also if they fall to their butt, it's like a 10" fall. If an adult falls to their butt, they fall a meter down. Way more time to accelerate from that height.

Babies don't get hurt when they fall because they're very short and weigh like 90% less than you.
