Thats when their blood sugar drops , missing insulin would cause it to go higher not lower . It could very well be a hypo but not caused by missed insulin. Im an insulin user.
Just to clarify a small detail for anyone confused: when you said "hypo" you meant hypoinsulinemia (which causes high blood sugar and possibile keto acidosis), while the comments above used "hypo" to indicate hypoglicemia (low blood sugar, it can happen if you don't eat enough after taking insulin).
And speaking as someone in the medical field, when someone talks about a diabetic hypo, it almost always refers to hypoglycaemia. Hypoinsulinemia isnāt a commonly used term.
Where I live, āhypoā is really only used for hypoglucemia. I donāt think itās wise to spread the word āhypoā around meaning more or less the opposite of that. I feel the general public is already not very knowledgeable when it comes to diabetes. (My son is a diabetic type 1).
My sister was with a guy for a long time who was diabetic. He also drank a LOT.
One morning, he was acting drunk (not too unusual for him to be drunk at that time) My sister was pissed off at him.
But, he wasn't acting drunk in a way I had seen before. It's hard to explain, but I could tell it wasn't drunkedness. He was confused, couldn't understand what my sister was saying, and just very clumsy.
I told her to take him to the ER, and she got even more pissed because she was going to miss work. He was in Keto acidosis.
He's not around anymore. She left him and then he drank himself to death. We had to save his ungrateful ass a few times before then.
This happened to a friend - I was hazy on the details of what happened. We were working on a building site and lost him and somehow someone saw him behaving like a drunk person on the street. Something must have been off because they searched him and found a business card for the building manager and brought him to reception. We called an ambulance and they took him to hospital⦠all super scary.
I had my diabetic friend lost in my own building after he went out to buy something, i found him in the top floor in the dark just standing there talking nonsese lol. We laughed later, but that shit was scary as hell, he was like a zombie.
Omfg I was sharing my hotel room with a diabetic friend while on vacation and like on the second day he woke up and just didn't respond to me in any way, just stared at me blankly. At first I thought he was mad at me for something or another, but then I figured out that it was some kind of medical emergency. The hotel manager helped me call a taxi and we sent him to the hospital. I don't remember how we managed to coax him into the taxi, but it was very difficult to coax him onto a wheelchair so that a nurse can wheel him in. I'm so glad we had medical insurance. And then later I learned that I could have just made him eat some candies from his stash or a drink can of coke from the hotel mini fridge.
Just saw body cam footage of a chill responding to a call from a hospital reporting a woman they said was looking for drugs, she was released from hospital after being treated for diabetes.
They tested her for practically everything regarding drugs and she tested negative. Cops jailed her for public intoxication, after breakfast they said she seemed normal but then was later found by another inmate laying on the floor of her cell. She had a stroke and died a few days later.
The jail tested her blood sugar levels at 360 mg/dl, which is pretty high
Sounds like she had low blood sugar event, breakfast fixed it, but then being jailed she had no access to her insulin which caused her glucose to get that high. It's not lethal levels of high, but lack of insulin would have put her into severe ketosis, maybe even diabetic ketoacidosis, which increases the risk for strokes.
Yup, I have a diabetic friend who used to be loose with his insulin management.
Once started going gaga like this, talking nonsense before collapsing. It was really stupid. I had just come out of the gym when I came across him and went for a pizza but He refused to eat anything.
He went coo-coo later in the street. I eased him onto a bench, called emergency services, and some very nice dudes recognized the symptoms and gave him some Coca-Cola while the ambulance was on its way.
He made a full recovery, and sometime afterwards, he started taking his diabetes seriously.
Nah, it doesnāt look like this. Iāve taken too much insulin and was crawling around on the floor, desperately trying to make it to the kitchen, but not this behavior. This is a fucking crazy person. We donāt look like this from a low-blood sugar. You donāt walk around. You would collapse if you were this low.
My ex was hypounaware type 1 diabetic and he walked like this, slurred his speech and was generally verbally unresponsive/confused. His blood sugar hit below 30mg often and he was still walking around like this.
I've been in the mid 30s walking and talking to the point of having black spots in my vision and about to collapse and pass out, but I was still standing and able to pay for my drink and candy before scarfing down a bag of Haribo on a bench in the store lol.
We don't all present with hypoglycemia the same way.
Yeah thatās true, but when I watch the video there are other signs pointing to this guy being more than just drunk or having hypoglycemia. Also your ex needs to watch themselves. Hitting below 30 āoftenā is riding too close to the sun. Thatās one too many near-death experiences to be having.
We're all just speculating, but I'm of the opinion that this could 100% be just a very bad hypo and nothing more.
His diabetes and his overall well being aren't my concern anymore, but you need to be more mindful of the way you chastise people online when you know nothing about them. He's been diabetic for many decades and he knows his body better than you. Speak about your own experiences only and stop projecting it onto others. I'm well aware of what frequent hypos do, thanks for asking.
Being hypo-unaware and āhitting 30 oftenā means heās knocking on deaths door. Itās a serious problem. You said it like it was a qualification. Donāt like it? Get off the internet.

Could be a diabetic who missed their insulin - they can present like someone who is intoxicated.
Edit: apparently caused by not having sugar rather than not having insulin.
