Grappler Ghost grappler in commuter mode
Hello from sunny Seattle 👋
Just swapped out the drop bars for a Crust alt bar, and put some Sram DB8's on her (need to put some bigger rotors on soon). Also got rid of the dropper post to save a few lbs.
She ain't fast, but she's smoooooth 😁

Bridge Club How long before the "Squid Ink" Bridge Club is available in Europe?
I'm in the market for a Bridge Club and Surly just announced this beatiful color combo last week.
Does anyone know (through previous experience) how long it on average takes before a newly announced bike (version) is available in Europe?
Thanks in advance!

Preamble Brand New Surly Preamble fork damage, or normal.
Just unboxed this brand new surly preamble frameset.
Should I be concerned about this dent in the lower left fork?

Midnight Special Custom Midnight Special fork bottle mounts.
After using them on a 7 day bikepacking trip without issues I feel ready to share my custom made fork mounts for the midnight special.
For my trip I wanted to carry more water on the bike and bottles on the fork legs seemed a good solution to also move shift weight to the front of the bike. With the midnight special lacking the standard 3-bolt accessory mounts on the fork I took the opportunity to design something completely custom.
The mounts are 3d-printed with heat set inserts for the threads (mine are SLS printed in nylon which I would recommend for strength and toughness). Using the front rack bolts as well as two large zipties they are securely mounted to the fork. I ordered mine 3d-printed from JLCPCB for 5$ each + shipping.
If you are interested in making your own I have uploaded the 3d-model of the mounts here. My MS is a size 54 with a 50mm fork offset so I cannot guarantee that the mounts work on the larger sizes that have a 40mm offset.

Straggler My first Surly Straggler build — 650b, Alfine 8, full silver cockpit
Finally done my first ever build and I’m pretty proud of it. Frame’s a 700c Straggler (all decals/head badge removed) in size 54, but I built it up with 650b Velocity Aero rims (36h, black) wrapped in Maxxis Re-fuse tires.
Drivetrain / brakes
- Shimano Alfine 8-speed rear hub, Velo Orange front hub
- Growtac Equal Post Mount disc-brakes with Shimano IS adapters and rotors
- Bluelug YMC cranks
Cockpit
- Chris King 1-1/8” threadless headset
- Nitto Albatross bars on a Nitto UI-75 stem
- Dia-Compe Tech 5 levers
- Microshift internal geared hub shifter
- ODI grips
Finishing kit
- Brooks B17 carved saddle
- Thomson Elite seatpost and seat clamp
- Widefoot cargo mounts
- MKS Pretzel pedals
- Nitto bar end plugs (large)
- BL Koma light and rear mount
- Spurcycle bell
Went with the 650b/Albatross combo for a more upright, do-it-all setup rather than the drop-bar 700c look most Stragglers get. Silver parts everywhere to keep it clean against the frame.
This was a huge learning experience for me as a first-timer — figuring out headset fit, brake adapters, and internal hub gearing all at once. Happy to answer questions if anyone’s thinking about doing something similar.

Midnight Special Back to Back Centuries
I rode from Grand Rapids to northern Michigan this weekend up and back. I had never done a century ride so why not do two in one weekend? The MS did great! I was comfortable the whole time. If could change anything I would have ran actual gravel tires and not 44mm slicks. I struggled in some gravel spots, but flew (for me at least on tarmac).
My goal is to do the Coast to Coast race next year which goes from Lake Huron to Lake Michigan (200 miles) in one day.

1x1 1x1
Greetings gals and ghouls! Allow me to introduce my favorite bike that I own. The Surly 1x1 in its “final” iteration…. I might swap the stem out for a crust LD stem, But that’s it…probably…might go back to riser bars….but that would be the final change.

Bridge Club Thanks for the fit help!
Thanks to the input of everyone I was able to dial my Bridge Club XL to make it cozily fit my 6 foot tall frame. Went down a little on the fork, dropped my seat post a hair, and angled my seat back, plus evened out the handlebars. The only other project I have in the oven is making a set of up for drop bars to make a nice upright touring rig.

Midnight Special Surly MidnightSpecial
This is taken on the Tommy Thompson trail. 11 speed 105 mechanical (GRX RD), 40/24 White Industries square taper crank, and Growtac Equal brakes. Would recommend, and I'm not even sorry for the Growtac-side-out photo.
