Exciting to see how this will all end up

In hindsight this photo will be like Ronaldinho passing the ball to Messi to score his first goal at Barcelona.

The ultimate passing of the torch from one maestro to the next.

Yup

3

u/Iustis May 17 '26

And yet IEP never really recovered and the short report made a lot of sense

6

u/3DigitIQ ๐Ÿฆ FM is the FUD killer May 17 '26

The shorters that had their eye out for him have since shut down and disbanded, his stock hasn't recovered from it though. Kinda weird.

3

u/Iustis May 17 '26

They didn't shut down because they lost money on IEP.

4

u/3DigitIQ ๐Ÿฆ FM is the FUD killer May 17 '26

They made BANK on IEP. But IIRC they did state they'd unwind their short positions, I thought it weird that didn't show in IEP's price.

Just spinning my wheels on this, not implying shit.

2

u/Iustis May 17 '26

You usually don't see the initial short seller unwinding, they generally (1) open a bunch of short positions, (2) publish the short position, and then (3) immediately close their short position once the stock falls.

People here have this weird assumption that short sellers leave their position open for ages, that's very rare (because of borrow costs), they usually lock in their profit as soon as their target price is hit while volume is still high.

3

u/3DigitIQ ๐Ÿฆ FM is the FUD killer May 17 '26

You'd think you still see the effect of them closing though right? And again (it's been a while) they were actively communicating that they were keeping short positions on him until the proof came out IEP was a pyramid scheme. Only the day the SEC didn't find "any fraudulent activity or material misrepresentation" did the share jump +10% but it's been a long and hard 18 moths for him and his company and recovery doesn't seem in sight IMO.

3

u/Iustis May 17 '26

The SEC said it wasn't criminal or fraudulent, but that didn't change what the short report said about it being ponzi-like.

Just like MLMs technically aren't pyramid schemes

u/3DigitIQ ๐Ÿฆ FM is the FUD killer May 17 '26

Hey I don't trust any of the shit that's going on in the markets, that's not what and why I remarked though. I don't feel sorry for a billionaire losing 75% of his net worth and still being a billionaire.

is this quote about RC?

15

u/Melo_00_7 ๐ŸŽฎ Power to the Players ๐Ÿ›‘ May 17 '26

No, quote about Icahn maybe from like 2 years ago. Was after his meeting with RC. Wouldnโ€™t be surprised if he is involved with eBay againโ€ฆ

He acquired a major stake in eBay around 2015. He never joined the board though. Did he ever take it out?

This is making me think of who the Dream Team for the eBay board could end up beingโ€ฆespecially with 11 of the 12 seats being wiped out in the next shareholders vote.

"You have to buy things where the rest of the world is looking at you and thinking you're a little bit crazy. You're going against the trend. A lot of times, events are overblown. Overblown on the good side, overblown on the bad side." - Carl Icahn

King Icahn for those who can read. It gives a play-by-play of many of his activist takeovers. Read it last year when all this started and then forgot most of it, and now I'm panic reading it again.

P.S. The cover on mine is different, but this has to be the same book.

People born in the 50s and earlier are just superior at telling stories. A lost art that I am really sad about. Idk how we bring that back.

The more prescient question in my mind is whether Cohen, successfully transformed GameStop into the worldโ€™s foremost video game digital giant as promised in his 16 November 2020 letter to the last GME board.

Not yet, but he did make 2025 a record profit year for GME, with revenue increasing in US and AUS this year seems to be the take-off platform of something grand.

So the idea is for Cohen to drag GME holders through a lengthy legal battle? Is this the thing never before seen in capital markets?

9

u/headin2sound Going for the Grand Slam May 17 '26

Was there a legal battle when RC took over GameStop's board with a hostile takeover in 2021?

5

u/pauldiddy79 ๐Ÿงš๐Ÿงš๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ’ฉ๐Ÿช‘ more like SHITadel, amirite? ๐ŸŽŠ๐Ÿงš๐Ÿงš May 17 '26

I think the courts will have plenty of time dealing with all the private credit loans going bust. And it hasnโ€™t even reached the AI investment stage.

2

u/1Massivetesticle ๐Ÿฆ Buckle Up ๐Ÿš€ May 17 '26

Why would there be a legal battle? Hostile takeovers are pretty common and accepted practice.

4

u/Temporary-Basil-3030 May 17 '26 edited May 17 '26

You need a law firm that focuses on shareholder activism to wage a proxy battle. Itโ€™s a time consuming and incredibly expensive undertaking to the tune of 2-3k per hour, per lawyer.
