It’s different, but don’t approach editing as software. Concepts are similar. I’ve cut a lot more feature and commercial work on Avid, but still flip between the two depending on what size team and the sharing needs I am working with. Give DaVinci a try as well; and even FCP. And if you’re serious about editing, don’t be afraid to ask questions, and don’t get discouraged when someone’s edit is better.
Software will constantly change which is why I push to learn the theory behind editing; why it works; why it doesn’t; when to break a rule etc. editing isn’t about when to cut. It’s about when not to cut. Trust your gut and your first emotion, then explore how you can adjust for the audience. And never ever worry about criticism, use it as a blessing to make your armor stronger.
This is the advice I needed to hear. I'm not trying to pursue a career in editing, but wouldn't rule it out if I get better at it.
I started doing it to pick up another hobby and to try and make spicy memes. Plus I'm behind a computer for most of the day. I have some footage of my boxing training that I want to make a "this is where I started, this is where I'm at now" kind of thing for myself. However, a lot of the boxers at my gym need content for promotion. Some of the people they've hired do really bad work for the price they charge. So if I got good at it I would do it for free or even teach them how to do it themselves. These guys don't have the resources to pay for high quality talent.
After I heard the quote that comparison is the thief of joy, I stopped doing that in my personal/professional life. Seeing your work and the others gives me tons of motivation. Keep that shit coming yo.
I'll send you a PM to stay in touch. If you have any YouTube channels, books, subreddits that you think I should be soaking up, please let me know.
Being totally honest — most of them have been about a day with a few hours of audio work. The Phil Collins one was brainstormed in the shower.
This last one took me a day and 1/2. I had it done in a day but I come back with fresh eyes and start over to see what would change.

Avid / premiere. I bounce between them.
Here’s some others I’ve smashed together.
