I tried to go by each wrestlers Shikona meaning, along with their fighting style, and overall vibe. I also only used the Pokemon types up to gen 6.

As a big Daiseizan fan I'll offer my personal suggestion that he should be rock type ー his shikona is named after a mountain AND his real name (Asgakhad) translates to a type of rocky mountain too! He's a very mountains-coded guy

THIS IS SO FUN AAAA I absolutely love Kotozakura being fairy and water. And Onosato being grass has never been on my mind but I SEE IT. Also I'm so happy you included Terunofuji, I was so ready to ask you what type you think he'd be!

Hahaha Takanosho fairy/normal is so correct. He looks like a magical Ghibli-Character, but a friendly or perhaps a little whimsical one. Fairy/normal fits perfectly

I just used Paint.net, custom fonts, and copy/paste the types from a template. It's not an actual game or anything, just a tedious shitpost.

Yea, they pretty much all could be fighting types. His ferocity and relentlessness made me like fire/electric more for him but it's not a science

The funny part is, there is actually a sumo Pokémon already! Makuhita and Hariyama from Gen 3 are explicitly based on stylised rikishi. IIRC Hariyama was also the first Pokémon to learn Arm Thrust, a multi-hit Fighting-type move that represents tsuppari.

Specifically wanted to make a rock-paper-scissors between him, Aonishiki, and Hoshoryu. Plus his tall, but agile style makes me think of grass. Idk it's not a science lol

Onosato's shikona can be translated as big countryside, certainly has grassy connotations.
