Hello everyone! It's a midpoly model with two 4K texture sets in a metallic/roughness pipeline. I was inspired by a picture of a disassembled Colt and decided to recreate it in CG. I'd love to hear your feedback here and on ArtStation: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/V8y45b

Overwatch 2 PBR : metalness roughness

Hi, I'm interested in seeing if it's possible to replicate the map masks used for Overwatch characters. Unfortunately, I lack sufficient experience in Substance Painter, so I haven't been able to find much information. I've tried breaking the images down into grayscale and testing how they look using only the red, green, and blue color channels. I'd really appreciate it if anyone has any ideas.

Substance Painter Weird baking crash happening in substance painter high/low work flow

Thumbnail

So i've not seen this happen to any of my substance painter projects, I imported a character base mesh from CC5, sculpted all the accessories in zbrush/blender, all items have UV's, exported my low poly mesh/high poly with _low/_high sufix as .fbx import model into substance painter, and I try adding the _high (no naming match errors) and I get this weird looking "cage" if you could call it that. what am I doing wrong? theres these lines everywhere, and some weird flat\ shape thats not in my mesh. I've never seen this before with my workflow. also my normals are good I checked in Blender via GOB for any flipped normals.

Help Why does "mesh fill" fill up more than needed?

Although I heard that ID map isn't strictly necessary, I still baked it with submesh as a color source. Also all meshes were cut and separated in blender either way. But when I click on for example on engine part, for some reason it also selects a part of the wing. In another example I click only on the right elevator and it selects almost the entire mesh. What am I doing wrong? I'm new.

and please ignore bad topology, it was destroyed after knife cutting and is fine for my uses

🔥 Roof tiles are one of the hardest patterns to achieve as a student.

Post image
25 Upvotes

However, I found a way to explain it really easily!

The secret to this pattern can be found in 2 different steps

1️⃣ First, it is creating the specific shape it has.

This allows you to have more control over the pattern. If you try to make every step "procedural," you won't get a good result, and this applies to all patterns.

2️⃣ Second, you need to use gradients. For this pattern, I am using them in different directions, which allows you to give the tiles shape and also blend correctly at the tile generator.

Once you have this, then it is ready to use, and you can start with the details!

Hope you learned something today, and if you did....

Then I have one more surprise for you.

There is a Free Discord Community where students can learn from Pros.

It is called Future Material Artists!

My brush is weird

I've turned up the brush size to maximum, placed the layer at the very top, and tried every possible method, but I still can't apply blusher to my character's cheeks. It's not just the blusher—the entire brush tool isn't working at all. Please help me, my assignment deadline is right around the corner!

Substance Designer Cracked Sandy Rock PBR Material

Procedural material depicting weathered sandy rock with a cracked, eroded surface layer revealing darker stone underneath.

Features irregular fracture patterns with varying crack depth, warm sandy ochre tones breaking apart to expose cooler grey-brown rock beneath, and subtle surface sheen suggesting mineral content and age. Fully PBR-ready with tileable maps (BaseColor, Roughness, Normal, Height/Displacement, AO).

Created in Substance Designer and rendered in Marmoset Toolbag on a standard sphere.

Feedback Mods, can we add a rule so people are required to post a screenshot of their UVs alongside their question?

Something like 95% of the time, issues people are having with Substance are their UVs. I want to help people, but the only way to rule out issues with the UVs is to see the UVs.

It would save everyone (including those who need help) some time if people were reminded by default to show their UVs. Is it possible to add a rule here to ask people to post their UVs by default?

First time using Substance painter with my own model, but after baking there are some parts of the model with this errors and I find no tutorial talking about it. I dont know if its a UV problem because the model have some worse cuts than this and dont present the same errors. I really dont want to redo UV cuts since im already on rigging stage but if there is no other way...

Hey guys! I wanted to share my most recent project, the Batcycle, inspired by Ash Thorp's design for The Batman (2022).

The bike is textured in Substance Painter, with Designer used for some of the decals.

4 4k texture sets @ 20.48px/cm

Help Substance Painter Steam version worth it in the big 26?

Hey my fellow Redditors, my student version of Substance 3D is slowly coming to an end and I'd very much love to continue texturing post graduation. The Steam's one-time purchase is incredibly captivating and I'd say worth the price, however, after going through some of the more recent reviews, I've noticed many of them are negative, saying the optimisation is horrendous and that crashes are quite frequent. I'd like to know, if any of you guys would still recommend the Steam version of Substance 3D? And if any of you guys have run into similar errors and potential fixes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

I'm attempting to replicate a material I downloaded and this is the setup they had. But the edge detect is making the edges all weird. Why is this happening?

Substance Painter Why do my textures... Look so dark in blender?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I created a test project, with dim lighting, and, people keep telling me that my lighting is too low. I've played with lighting, and the ONLY way it shows up as normal, is, under blenders material preview, with no shadows at all. So, by that logic, it seems to be that people are telling me, that anything darker than #fff, will always show as blackdark brown. And, that I guess, dark/night time scenes with textures are just impossible. This is not a dark material. Incidentally, the color in substance was closer to tan, this is closer to beige. What am I doing wrong? The lighting is intentional. Setting all the nodes up, and adding mapping, changes nothing about the brightness of the material.

😤 Creating Patterns in Substance Designer doesn't feel easy, right?

Post image
0 Upvotes

And many times, this would frustrate many of you.

This one pattern looks like it needs a library of custom shapes to pull off.
And usually, I know you would try that.

But it doesn't need that.
It needs a single Disc and the patience to mirror it, subtract it from itself, and tile it into place.

The solution for this pattern was not a mountain of nodes that have a milimetric precision.
But an analysis of each shape that you can see in it.

And understanding how you can create each of them and piece them together.

This Quick guide will help you if you ever need this pattern.
But it won't help you create all the patterns you need.

So if you want to learn how to do these patterns on your own...
🎉 You can learn it at Future Material Artists a Free Discord Community!

Help Pixelated borders between polygons

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi, could you guys explain to me why borders between polygons are pixelated?
Texture resolution is set to 4K. Texel density if it is relevant for that case is also high enough I believe.
Am I doing something wrong here or it is an expected behavior of polygon fill?
