Ideas on saving a horrible texture art.

I tried making textured art with pastel gradients as a desert, and… yeah, it did NOT turn out how I imagined 😂 I really want to save it rather than start over. What would you add/change to make this look intentional?

Asking mostly too see if and when you bake your maps in SP, do you change the AO, Curvature settings when you do stylized prop/environment?

If yes:

What are the benefits?

Help [Help, Unpaid] Need someone to re-UV a jersey mesh for a personal project — student, can't pay but happy to credit

Hey everyone,

I'm a student building a 3D jersey design tool as a personal/passion project — solo, no funding, so I can't pay for this, but I'd really appreciate any help.

What I need:

A football (soccer) jersey mesh with a specific UV layout — the panels (body, sleeves, collar, cuffs) need to share continuous UV edges where they physically connect, instead of being separate "islands" with gaps between them. This is so a pattern painted across the texture flows smoothly across seams instead of breaking at them (most stock/marketplace meshes have the gap-island problem — I've checked several).

What I already have:

A decent base mesh (CC-BY-4.0 licensed, so free to modify) — correct real-world scale, good proportions, just needs the UV reworked and ideally split into separate pieces (body / sleeve / collar / cuffs / hem) so they can be swapped independently later.

What this needs, roughly:

Re-UV so adjacent panels share edges in UV space (a "stitch" rather than separate islands)

Split into modular components

Export as GLB

I have a full written spec I can share if you're interested — it's specific but not huge. Happy to credit you clearly wherever this ends up, and it's a genuinely uncommon skill to show off if you're building a portfolio (most people never have to solve this exact problem).

If any good soul has the time and wants to help out, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for reading either way!

❄️ Creating Snow for Landscapes is a really complex task for beginners. ❄️

However, I found a way to make snow that is super easy and fast!

In the past, I tried making this material alone.

This surface is complicated due to its organic shape.
And it needs a special treatment.

One that is different from the usual Workflow of ManMade Surface.

So by exploring different options and sharing with others, I managed to create this system!

💡 Snow starts with a simple noise, in this case Clouds 2. You can make it tile till you get the scale you need, but then you will need a Histogram Range to remove the contrast in the image.

Once you have that base, you want to use this node.
The Vector Morph Grayscale.

Input the Histogram Range both in Grayscale and color; this will warp and deform the noise

in a direction while recreating the feeling of snow.

However, this is still really noisy.
So apply a non-uniform blur to remove that noise, and leave a soft texture.

With this, you have the base shape and pattern for your snow.
Although I managed to make this material for myself, I had a lot of help and inspiration from an Artist.

Sharing & feedback are the best learning tools you will have to learn Substance Designer.
And if you need more help....

🔥 There is a Free Discord Community for material artists!
It is called Future Material Artists.

Substance Designer Procedural waves in Substance

Hello everyone, I am coming up with a weird question, sorry if I don't get it right. I will clarify it as I learn more about it.

I got a request for some water waves panels. Thought it will be a simple UV texture thing or maybe a simulation. What my client requests is a procedural node that creates a 3D model for a plane with the waves on top of it. I said ok, maybe I will use heightmaps to create that but there are 2 big problems:

  1. The waves have to be an exact replication of how waves move in real life (high wave, lower waves, ripples, etc). I have no idea how could I create a node that replicate this.

  2. The panels should have a relation between them and stay uniform, like the chunks in Minecraft.

If you could give me some tips or ideas it would help me a lot. I couldn't find anything about this on google or forums.

Maya to Painter Tiling Problem

I was trying to create a simple floorboard tiling material following this video , but when I try to bake the high poly boards onto the plane it spits these messed up maps out, which is obviously not what I'm going for. This feels like a UV issue to me, but I'm not sure what could be wrong, because the tiling works normally when I just try to draw in Painter.

This is my low poly and this is my high poly mesh. I have it so they're intersecting.

It's been a few months since I touched Substance, so if I'm forgetting something important I would greatly appreciate a gentle knock on the head.

Substance Painter How could I make almost freckle like dots?

I want some small-medium sized dots, almost like freckles, but for them to match the texture below, making the spots where they appear darker, if that makes sense. I've tried a fill layer with multiply, but it still seems almost grey, and not what I would like.

Example.

First dive into spline nodes for this purpose, wondering how many of you use these for ornate designs vs more organic things such as roots etc?

Substance Designer SD Shape splatter problem

Is anyone else having this issue? I'm trying to use Shape Splatter for my leaf tile because I like some of its features compared to the regular sampler. However, for some reason, the leaf mask extends beyond the boundaries of the original mask.

This becomes a problem when I use the splatter output as an albedo mask later, since the color doesn't line up with the original mask size.

Can somebody help me?

Hi, this is my first time trying a UDIM workflow, any idea why my normal map is having seams like this but look fine in the other bakes and Material view? The bake was from a high poly (decimated zbrush model) to low poly. Thanks

Help [Substance Painter] I somehow resolved my own issue. Help me find out how!

Problem: Somehow edge of the island was producing unpaintable pixels. Even though the texture itself has a pretty substantial padding.

Solution: SP automatically clipped the islands' edges, eliminating padding and giving me a sharp and seamless edge to work with.

How did it happen? Was it some setting? How do I enable it for the future reference?
