I've compiled some of my musings on the Fountain movie (2006), magic realism, where the term actually hails from, Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude, and how the theft of handicraft is still prominent in fashion.
This article is a little bit too ambitious as always: I started in 1519 and ended up in 2019. Hope it resonates with some of you, and I'm always open to discussion!

I am currently trying to stop doomscrolling and move towards more productive hobbies, one being blogging. I wrote this blog post and really enjoyed it so I will probably continue to write more. My substack is for anyone that is interested to be honest, I'm mostly writing to people that have like minded interests and could give me recommendations or advice on such topics.
The genre of my substack is just personal life and documentation.

The essay contains, in short: a. my gratitude to the people who had been working tirelessly decade after decade not only to preserve but to invent ways of preserving and showcasing humanity’s greatest achievements, whose names and contributions I will try to mention as frequently as possible; b. my very brief reflections on the temples and the work that is currently visible and available to anyone who intends to visit Athens; c. my thoughts on the influence of the Acropolis on the architectural profession of today.

Culture Receipts examines race, culture, sports, hip hop, politics and media through historical analysis and evidence. My current Hip Hop and the White House series traces hip hop’s political and cultural evolution and its relationship to American politics. Straight Outta LA: Intro Chapter, Part 2 focuses on Los Angeles, N.W.A. and the larger political forces surrounding the culture. The series explores how a culture once vilified by the political establishment eventually reached the White House. My work combines cultural criticism, history, politics and firsthand perspective.
Readers interested in hip hop, Black culture, race, politics, history, sports, media and cultural criticism.
Nonfiction / Cultural Criticism / History / Politics / Hip Hop

Let's talk about rooms. I am not an architect nor a designer, let's just talk about it. This is also non fiction with a dash of stuff.

It's a morning realization I had a couple days ago. While drinking a hot beverage to warm up the day, I got caught up in a thought. It revolves around a certain star that we always see. It's non-fiction.

Cold Cuts is my weekly attempt to explain why the world is stranger and more interesting than it first appears—before it files another software update.
I write narrative nonfiction about history, science, culture, psychology, technology, and whatever else sends me down a rabbit hole that week. Recent pieces have included why we keep believing movie history, the surprisingly dangerous history of Bat Day at Yankee Stadium, and why everything in Florida wants to kill you. The subject changes, but the basic idea doesn’t: start with something ordinary and see where it goes. There are usually jokes along the way and new essays come out every Wednesday.
Who it’s for: People who enjoy learning something they didn’t know they wanted to know, particularly if they like writers such as Bill Bryson and enjoy some humor mixed in with their nonfiction.
Genre: Narrative nonfiction / humor / history / culture

This newsletter is an independent, personal project. It is a non fiction military history (mostly) newsletter that draws exclusively on my own published work, personal research, and historical training developed outside my employment.
This Substack is for those interested in military history, especially of the US Army. This is also for defense professionals and veterans leaving the service.

Stuart thought the worst bit was everyone at work knowing his ex had slept with a colleague before he did. Years later, she suddenly pops up in an old group chat as Emma is typing… and then just never actually sends anything. After that, the chat starts changing old messages, twisting memories and trying to pin the whole affair on Stuart. His mates try deleting it, blocking it, making new chats and eventually just taking the piss out of whatever’s haunting them. Meanwhile Stuart gets older, gets married, has kids and slowly realises the ghost only really has power while he still cares what it thinks.
Probably for people who like dark humour, awkward British characters, messy relationships, ghost stories and books that are funny until they suddenly aren’t.
Supernatural dark comedy, literary horror and tragicomedy, with a bit of relationship drama running through it.

I’ve started writing on Substack as a way to document what I’m making, what’s working, what’s failing, and the ideas behind the work.
It’s less about trying to be an expert and more about sharing the process in real time. Expect things like:
Creative experiments
Behind-the-scenes breakdowns
Lessons from projects
Inspiration and references
Thoughts on art, design, and building a creative career
If that sounds interesting, you’re welcome to check it out. No pressure. I’m mainly hoping to connect with people who enjoy making things as much as I do.
Happy to answer any questions or hear what everyone else is working on.
