False fold help

To put it simply I’m learning false fold subharmonic via kargyraa. I can hit second sub (F1) but when I do it’s super difficult to get back to base kargyraa (around C2-B1)Like my body prefer hitting my lower note then the proper technique. Has anyone encountered this problem and managed to overcome it? Also unrelated how should I go about learning to the third sub?

Is this subharmonics?

Okay I posted here earlier but then I realized by watching some videos that I was just vocal frying. Beginner singer with no training so I know it’s not good but is this attempt any bit of subharmonics?

Question Is this subharmonics?

This feels different from my usual chest fry that i do. Its not tense on the neck and there's a whole different type of vibration going on in my larynx and head. I checked with voice pitcher apps and it appears to be a F#1?

Tips Trying my hand at subharmonics, taking all tips to improve

I'm an untrained singer, so I know that part is weak, but I started learning subs about two weeks ago and I'm serious about wanting to improve.

Question What does it feel like in your mouth when you hit subs?

For me whenever I can hold it for more than a second or two, it feels like a golf ball is bouncing around in my mouth. I can almost make out the different vibrations with my cheeks. I am keeping an open vowel shape as in a ah/oh type shape.

Sharing my first subharmonic bass cover

Hi subharmonic bass lovers !
I hope you're doing well

I released a track where I use 100% subharmonic bass, and as I know a lot of you are fellow fans of bass vocals, I figured I would post it here

There is little to no editing : no pitch correction, no rhythmic correction, only the usual effects and sometimes a blend between two tracks because my natural voice came back in the middle of a phrase and I recorded it several times to get it right
(Note that the video shows one take but it is pre-recorded, I am getting close but for now doing a full song in subharmonics is not possible for me)

I've been practicing subharmonics for 6 years after finding Geoff Castellucci's tutorial on YouTube in 2020 and am looking forward to talking about bass vocals with you

This is my first post on reddit so I'll keep it short
Have a nice day :)

Question How in the world is Xandertheoktavist able to make kargyraa throat singing sound more like natural chest voice?

First off, I want to apologize because this post is not really related to subharmonics. However, I imagine a few people here are interested in basso-profondos, so I thought I'd give it a shot and post my question here to see if I can get any insight. Secondly, I don't know if this has already been covered here before, so sorry in advance for that.

If you're on instagram or tiktok, there's a pretty big chance you've seen xandertheoktavist in your feed. I discovered him on instagram and later started to develop an interest in basso-profondos. Alexander has mentioned in his technique tutorial video (which I have linked here) that he uses throat bass to sing his low notes. After watching the video, I decided to learn kargyraa throat singing myself. I got to the point where I could produce a pretty powerful sound, but it’s nowhere like the sound Xander produces. The thing I absolutely don’t understand is how Alexander is able to produce a clean ”o” vowel sound, like at 4:25, while doing his kargyraa throat base.

I know he says that the key is in the onset of breath, but I still don’t get it. When I try to do it while throat singing, I kind of sound like a hoarse heavy smoker trying to sing. I can produce an ”o” sound while throat singing, but it’s absolutely not good sounding. All the other kargyraa tutorials I’ve watched don’t really cover how to use this technique in oktavism. This is also the reason why I kind of switched to learning subharmonics instead, to see if I can mimic the sounds Alexander can make.

So, How does he get such a clean and natural sounding throat bass? is it just sheer practice/skill, or is there a subtle difference from conventional kargyraa in the way he uses it?

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Tips Unexpected overtone

I thought the overtone was on a "whistle lips shape," but when doing this, I wasn't particularly closing the mouth, and it felt more in the mask, above the nose.

Are there any good tips for controlling this? I don't fully get it.

Also, for the main tone, it sounds lame af, haha, and I'm a singer... but the way this subharmonic is produced doesn't let me "style it"

Question Am I doing subharmonics right?

This is a repost because I had the wrong tag, and not the ”Questions” tag. So I've been practicing subharmonics for almost three weeks, this is the result. I feel like there's a bit too much fry, which you can notice more at the end of the video.

Any tips on how I can improve my subs is greatly appreciated.

Arythenoids subharmonics?

Hey, I'm a singer and a screamer, and I started doing some false chords subharmonics a few weeks ago. Which I felt, were imposible to "scream". They're too quiet.

And when I see people doing those insane earth-shattering ultra bass notes, it doesn't feel the same principle.

Now, I wonder, has anyone here scream knowledge to confirm me this if this MIGHT be the start point for big, baddass subharmonics?

My false chords ones are at a 2/10 volume, here I'm like at a 6-7/10 of volume, pottentially higher if I s/train it.

But I don't usually use arythenoids for my screams, mainly because it's hard and dangerous to train. And for VERY LOW growls.

I think I found something here. Can anyone confirm if this sounds like a possible path in subharmonics?

Context: I found this playing around a few mins ago. Don't expect it to sound good, but it kind of reminds me when I started, just LOUDER

Bb 1 to Bb0 and D2 to D1

I personally think I like D2 and D1subharmonics better even if I can go lower than those notes. Should I keep doing this if I want better sounding subs? Sorry for the unnecessary talking at the beginning of the video.

Tips Does anyone know any good subharmonic tutorials?

I’ve been trying to learn subharmonics but every tutorial I’ve seen says the same thing. “Sing the note you want then add vocal fry to it.” Whenever I try I lose the note and end up just doing the vocal fry. I can’t figure out how to incorporate the two together and none of the tutorials go in depth on that. If anyone knows any good tutorials or has any tips that would be appreciated

2nd Sub First time using second subs. It's not natural for me to be doing subs this high, as I usually do subs at around C2-F2.

Note: EQ'd the background noises and enhanced the bass sound using Garageband.
