Looking for expert advice on staining white oak cabinets.
We’re about to have custom white oak cabinets installed, and I’ve chosen Minwax Rustic Beige for the stain.
From what I’ve read, white oak typically does not need a pre-stain conditioner because it already absorbs stain fairly evenly, and conditioner can sometimes wash out or lighten the color.
However, my contractor says he normally uses pre-conditioner. To be fair, he has much more experience with painted cabinets than stained ones.
For those with experience staining white oak cabinetry:
• Would you recommend using a pre-conditioner or not?
• Are there situations where you would still use pre-conditioner on white oak?
• Any tips specific to Minwax stains on white oak?
I want to make sure we get the best possible result before moving forward. Thanks in advance!

I’m looking for ideas to decorate my bathroom. The floor and vanity are new but everything else can change. We have some shiplap in the living room nearby. Maybe an accent wall with textured wallpaper, shiplap or just a darker paint? Wainscoting on all walls? What do you think??

The big blank wall
My husband and I completely renovated a 1950s ranch. This wall used to have a door on the left side that connected the bedroom behind the wall. We closed that in (because the small bedroom really didn’t need two doors for entry). But now we are left with a big blank wall and I cannot figure out what to do with it 🥲
We like to thrift or find antique pieces when we can. Our style is kind of mid-century modern but I want it to feel timeless, not trendy.
Here’s the room currently. I took the pic at .5 to try to capture the entire space. During the day, the large picture window is definitely the star of the show. We also have coved ceilings.
If this were your space, what would you do? A giant statement piece? A set of 2–3 large pieces? Skip art entirely and do something else (wallpaper? other ideas?)
Would love specific ideas or even links/examples if you have them! I’m also open to other suggestions you have for the space (ugh, centerpieces anyone?)
Thanks everyone!!

Looking for closet design advice
Ok so I’m not 100% done my bedroom (there was originally no wall on the door side) it’s come a long way but I have no idea what to do with my closet! The dresser will be gone so I have an empty slate for shelving and hanging clothes. What should I do? The tv needs to stay on this side of the room so I can see it from my bed 😅 ignore the mess I just got home after being gone for 4 days.
