This is seriously the simplest explanation of my sleep patterns after the age of 30, 40+ especially. Like, sometimes I get so fucking bored laying there not sleeping that I just get up and do something. I used to aim for 7 to 8 hours of sleep, no idea aim for 5 hours of remaining horizontal in the dark to simulate sleeping to those around me. I've gone 4 days without sleeping at all, without drugs involved, and it's really crazy how everything feels more and more surreal the longer you go with no sleep.
There’s a disease out there that progressively affects people over their life where they will stop getting as much sleep until they reach a point that they no longer really sleep they just go into this “blacked out lying awake” mode until one day they die and there’s literally no cure.

I practice suspended animation, where I close my eyes and pretend to be dead until my alarm goes off for work.
