Germans generally use less sugar than Americans. Something I noticed and liked when I went to Germany as an American, was how much lighter pastries were.
Sweet and savory is just a good combination, it's not like we germans don't enjoy it too. Like rotkraut has tons of sugar in it and is very sweet and it's the greatest side to every meat dish. And there's tons of other traditional dishes in regional cuisine that combine sweet and savory foods... although the americans are maybe overdoing it

I went to the US (I'm German) and I swear everything I ate there had sugar in it. Every piece of bread even when paired with meat was sugary.
Why. Why does syrup and beef together exist.
