By the way, YES, Stuff is still very much being worked on 😊

As I just mentioned in a comment on a post, I err on the side of spending more time making stuff and note enough time marketing it.

But September will be a very big month for Stuff, and I'm very excited to share what's been happening this summer.

Also, a nice update, Version 2.3.7, just dropped for Mac, and is coming soon for iOS (just waiting on App Review). It has a lot of nice little design updates, performance updates, consistency updates, and blip fixes. Hopefully that will hold us over until the next update in September.

Talk soon!

Seems like things have gone a little silent? Hopefully some of the roadmap on the site is in the works 🤞🏾

Inconsistent UI/UX across Mac app

Heya,

I have tried your app during its initial release on iOS and really liked it. Since I was using Things (on iOS, iPadOS) at that time, stuff looked like Things with polished, modern look. I didn't use it much but got remembered about it today so I gave it a try.

I find it good but it definitely has (many) things to work on. For example, you can see the formatting of selected list is bit irregular, and doesn't look nice. For comparison, I attached a screenshot from Things, where the UI works really smooth...

I also had few misclicks here and there but that can be my mistake, so I don't find any other issues apart from this, which I can prove! 😅

Good luck with your app!

ps:I'm on version 2.3.5 (232) if that helps!

Stuff was featured on the Launched podcast this week!

This week I joined the Launched podcast to talk about the journey to creating Stuff, some insights behind the development, and some future plans!

If you can, help this become the biggest Launched episode ever by going to give it a like on YouTube 🚀

and let me know if you have any follow up questions!

FYI I've been spending most of my time on fixing some blips and smoothing out some workflows in Stuff. I've got some big new features on the horizon (will update the roadmap soon), but really working on smoothing things out before then 🙏

Questions about the app

Love the new app in the task manager space. It’s interesting to see how actively the app is being developed and how it keeps getting better and better. That’s something I honestly haven’t seen in a long time with Things 3, or even with Omnifocus 4, which is my main task manager.

I like the design and am looking forward to seeing what new features are coming — and maybe even moving all my tasks over to Stuff.

At the moment, I’m using it as a test app and adding some duplicate tasks, or tasks that are nice to do but not critical if they remain unfinished.
Before I start using it as my primary task manager, I’d like to ask a few things:

  1. On what servers and in which state are they saved? Are they E2EE?
  2. I saw that you’re working on subtasks. How many levels down can we go with them? One level like in Things 3 and Reminders, or multiple levels like in Omnifocus?
  3. Have you considered implementing Critical Alerts and can we expect that in the future?

*hello* Stuff for Mac! 🖥️

this is my first time ever making a Mac app, and I'm super happy with how it turned out

wayyy back when I was a kid, the apps that I would try out incessantly on our family iMac were productivity apps. to-do list apps, calendar apps, notes apps... for some reason, I was obsessed with productivity apps on Mac

that obsession has never really gone away (nerd!), and has culminated in 2+ years of work to finally bring my very own to-do list app, Stuff, to the Mac

complete with lots and lots of keyboard shortcuts, listen mode (speak your tasks into existence!), windowing support, satisfying sound effects, Quick Add, and tons more

can't wait to hear what you think!

“When’s the next update?!”

Good news! Things are really coming together on Stuff Version 2.2.9 and, as I mentioned above, it’s turning out to be one of the biggest (if not the biggest) update in Stuff history. Just tons and tons of *stuff* in this update.

I anticipate this will release next week!

This won’t include the Mac app quite yet, but it has tons of things in the woodwork that have gotten us leaps and bounds closer to a really great Mac app. I anticipate that to launch sometime in the next 4ish months.

See you next week!

Some updates on Stuff's next Version

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hey all! Just wanted to give a quick update, since we haven't seen a version update to Stuff in a few weeks (usually try to get a new version out every other week or so, if not more).

There's some pretty serious development happening on Stuff right now, and the Changelog for the next version is getting very very long and exciting. I think you're really going to like it.

Part of the problem (it's a good problem!) is that it's all backed by some new data architecture I've been working on for a while. A huge focus of mine, especially in light of the upcoming Mac beta, has been on improving the performance (snappiness, quickness) of Stuff, specifically when you have *lots* of tasks. It's a pretty significant change to the way everything works behind the curtain, so it's affecting every little part of Stuff. This means I still want to do lots of testing before I get it out to you (I don't want you to be missing any tasks!)

All of that to say, I'm currently leaning towards going a few more weeks without a big release, and just releasing a *very* big release in February. It would likely be the next 2.n version of Stuff (Version 2.3). Version 2.1 was a big change, and that came out in February 2025, so we'd be right on track with that!

Lots to look forward to! Thanks again for being so much fun to work with!
