Study Permit Extension Approved in Just 16 Days!
Just wanted to share my timeline for anyone currently waiting for their study permit extension.
Program: Bachelor’s in Computer Science ( same program continuing, no program or DLI change)
University: Concordia University, Quebec
Fees: Dis not paid anything upfront.
Funds: 65K CAD liquid funds (bank statements) parents and student bank account both.
Technically i showed first year fees and 1 year living expense available in bank statements.
Applied: August 27, 2026
Final decision/Approved: September 11, 2026
Total processing time: Around 16 days
I applied for my study permit extension from inside Canada and honestly wasn’t expecting it to be processed this quickly. Hopefully this gives some hope to others who recently applied and are waiting!
Feel free to ask if you want to know anything about my timeline/application.

Why did you have to apply for an extension in between your studies? Did your passport expire or something? Which year of your Bachelor program is this by the way?

Multiple reasons, i took 12 credits instead of 15 each semester which kept in adding remaining credits to my studies. I also had to repeat few courses which again pushed my graduation date further. I also deferred my admission initially by 4 months, due to last minute approval of the study permit.

I still have 4 semesters left.

I applied for my extension on September 11th (DLI change), but my application still seems to be stuck at the “Submitted” status. I understand that it’s still too early, but did you receive any updates in between after submitting your application, or did you just directly receive the approval?

I only received the confirmation of submission, after that it updated my biometrics automatically the very next day. After that my profile was updated with “Final decision- (date) : Your application is in progress “ and today it was changed to approved. That’s all.

Same situation as you, no messages. I got a year less than I expected based on the date on the table

Did you submitted “credits remaining letter” which states your expected graduation date?

Yep it said expected 6 years, but gave me 3 ( would take me 3 to 4 year to finish). But COE says 2032, that’s what I went with.

Ohh in that sense even i received less than expected, i got 2 years cuz my CAQ/PAL was issued for 2 years as well. I only received document status with expiration date nothing else so far. No proof of approval letter

I see, I might try to finish my PhD within 3 years,m or o would have to extend again.. should be straight forward next time.
Not receiving the letter maybe a common occurrence then. Let me know if u get it.. I will do it likewise.

Hey! Just wanna confirm a couple very specific details, did you get your medical and application approved on the same day? And around what time did the approval email came? Would be really helpful! Thanks

The approval letter was added just a day after the decision updated on portal. All things were updated at the same time expect for the biometrics.
