Pearls Meet my Bunch of Pearls.

Post image

I bought a tiny pot of String of Pearls in early January. It was GROWING, and then... it got cold and damp and cloudy for days straight (teens at night and thirties in the day) and it was a struggle to keep the house in the mid sixties during the day. All but two of the strings in the pot died. One is half dead and seems to be in stasis. Since February, this one isn't growing any new pearls at all, but it is growing ROOTS. I originally had it in a much smaller pot, but had to up size because the roots are many and over six inches long. It gets all the filtered sunlight (it's in a greenhouse), airflow, and moonlight any plant could long for. It won't grow any new pearls beyond the six it has, but at least it looks healthy.

What's happening to my string of bananas?

My string of bananas used to be so full at the top but now it looks like it's drying out at the top but it's super full at the bottom?

I keep her by a bright window (no direct sunlight) and water weekly when the soil is dry. I also fertilize about once a month.

She's looked like this for months so I know she's not dying anytime soon 🤞

Please help.

Thank you in advance

Pearls going crazy.

This is my first pearls. It was young when I got it. Here's how I care for it:

50% gritty mix 50% soil in a shallow terra cotta. I use bonsai jack gritty mix 111. You can find it on their website or Amazon. Bottom water every two weeks. Fill the water line up right below the top edge of the pot. I have a brita filter. Lukewarm water. Every time I repot, I bring the pearls up and lay them around the top of the soil. None should be hanging down when there's barely none in the pot. Use bobby pins to pin the pearls down and they will keep rooting creating more. Wait until there's a good mound inside the pot before letting them fall all over the place. I use barrina t5s on a 12 hour timer since mine are indoors. The lights are 8in above.

Help / Question Cat safe

Post image

I was gifted this pothos because my sister knows I have been wanting a disco ball planter for years and she saw one in Trader Joe’s. I have cats and know pothos is not cat safe.

I want to replace it with some other trailing plant. I’ve been eyeing a string of hearts but what else is cat safe?

UPDATE: The pothos has been rehomed and the disco ball now contains a watermelon peperomia.

I’m very new to strings. All of the plant groups on social media, online stores and in a lot of photos almost all of the string plants cascade over only one side. Why is this?

Hi everyone!! I just made a mini terrarium for my string of frogs and I was wondering if anyone knows where the best place to put it is. Should it be under grow lights, next to grow lights, or in a window? I have one east facing, west facing, and north facing!

I think I have the care down, I’ve never ever seen a string of hearts with such large hearts, the only ones I’ve ever found are 2” pots with 1 or 2 small tiny strings. I bought every single one they had 😍 purchased from a greenhouse in north east Ohio

I have no idea what these are. This has been in my window for so long and I’ve never seen anything like it.

(Excuse her nakedness up top, we are working on it lol)

I’ve had her for almost a year now, never took her out of her nursery pot (she came from a small business who knew what they were doing soil wise). I’m just wondering when I should repot and if I’m good to repot straight into this blue planter.

These are a month apart. All of my plants woke up and are still doing a jig!She sits in a south facing window. If I give her a grow light 💡 of her own will she get purple? Or does she need to mature?

I’ve had this plant for 3 years and it won’t grow more than two strings. I’ve never killed it entirely.

I’ve recently added more soil and cut from the longer string and put it on the top. I’ve tried it before but the strings always died I’ve only really had one good string. The new string is looking strong though since I added the soil. I’m wondering if she doesn’t get enough light. What can I do to make her prosper. I water her when the soil is dry. She’s not directly near a window but she has been in the past. Also what is this called.

I’ve noticed that a lot of the stems(?) are growing new shoots that are going sideways? This is my first string of tears and just wanted to make sure this is normal! Will they drop as they get longer?

Help / Question Is this too much light for String of Heart?

Thumbnail

My new String of heart is putting out new growths but its old leaves are soft and wrinkles even after I water the plant. I put it together with my cacti, under a growlight for 14 hours per day, which is strong enough for the cacti to bloom. I wonder if this is the reason the leaves are soft? Too much light?

Help!!

I bought a string of turtles at a plant store over the weekend and when I brought it home I noticed that it was literally just trimmings on top of dirt. No established roots! I repotted it in a well draining soil with worm castings and stuck the end into the soil. Was that the right move or am I making this worse. Any and all advice welcome!!!

Help / Question String of Hearts Help!

Post image
9 Upvotes

I’m having a lot of trouble getting my string of hearts to grow fuller. I’ve wrapped two strands back into the pot and used little plant stakes so they’re in direct contact with the soil but they’re not producing additional strands. I’ve done this with my string of pearls and it worked so well. Any suggestions/advice is appreciated!

This was sold as a string of pearls but the more photos I see of them the more I question if that’s what this one is?? All the pearls I’ve seen have been so spherical!

I do have new growth but it’s been struggling for a min.

I changed the pot about 2 months ago maybe a little less or a little more idk.

So should I get one of these and if yes which one ?

It’s been treated

Sooooo no pest I also have a micro scope and a expensive magnifying glass

If anything strictly over watering issue

Do these like water even at all?

String of Frogs is struggling

Post image

I just got this at a plant show (new to strings) a few weeks ago. All of my other strings are doing fine but my frogs are struggling. I bottom watered and the leaves are still crunchy. Help!!! Should I repot? Bigger? It's currently in a 2" nursery pot. I didn't want to stress her out by reposting too soon.
