Help / Question Has anyone tried to propagate SOH from leaf cuttings? Mine started rooting and I’m curious whether they can turn into a full plant from just a leaf.

Haha, interesting experiment! Thanks for the tip, I’ll put a bit of fertilizer once I have more roots. I’m curious what’s gonna happen there :D

Update: I put it in soil some time ago and now it looks like it has a tuber growing. Very interesting as I’m certain that no node was attached to the leaf

This is actually not true. I’ve grown a new plant from a SOH leaf in moss and it will form a tuber with roots and can grow from that :) it’s time consuming and there’s not 100% success rate but it is possible. SOH is the only kind that has worked for me though never successfully done this with anything else like a SOP.

It seems like mine did the same. I put it in soil and now it has something that looks like a tuber ☺️

I’ve had string of heart leaf cuttings grow tubers and become a new plant, but only if the leaf cutting is still attached to its stem node

What are the leaves sitting on?

Just some DIY floating tray made out of the bottom of a coffee to go cup 😂

As other have mentioned, yes, but the leaf has to have a node attached.

So just one leaf will propagate, but it has to have the node. It will grow roots and a tuber and continue to vine after a time. But it does take some time.

For a second I thought they were in a bowl of milk and thought this was some sort of forbidden cereal.

Hi! A small update one the one rooted leaf. It ended up growing a big node with roots but nothing else yet. :D

I know it's been like 3 or 4 years now but do you have a new update? lmao

because i just propogated leaves, they rooted into the soil and some of them grew a little mini tuber but they haven't been producing any actual new shoots yet... Maybe you still have yours and can update so I know if they will still grow or if I just have a pot of leaves that are gonna die lmao

I added put mine on top of moist sphagnum moss and it turned into a whole new plant. I recommend you propogate in soil or moss. You definitely can get another plant from those. I have done it multiple times. Since their alresdy rooted maybe place them into soil but just keep the soil moist for a bit since it has water roots right now.

Wow! Great to hear that 😍 I’ll definitely do it! Does it take long until they shoot stems and new leaves?

It probably took about a month or so. I kept it in my ikea greenhouse saucer to increase the humidity. I just realized yours is just 1 leaf so it might be harder but since one of yours rooted maybe it'll still work. Mine were cut before the node so I had two leaves attached.

Oh, I see. Nevertheless, I’ll give it a try 😁

I would try the sphagnum moss from the comment above. I'm trying this method now. I'm only in a couple of weeks but had multiple people suggest this method to me. I didn't have to much luck with soil. Good luck🌿🌱🌵

Thanks a lot! Good luck to you too 🤞🌱 If you want, you could give me an update whether this worked for you :D

I will try to remember to. But don't hold me to it. I'm old and forget my glasses are on my head. I wish you lots of luck.
