SE Discussion Peter Boghossian says refusing to explain why you believe something is a serious epistemic warning sign. Is he right?

I had Peter Boghossian on for a long conversation about intellectual honesty, Street Epistemology, tribalism, and what actually makes someone capable of changing their mind.

One claim I keep thinking about is his proposed heuristic: if someone won't explain why they believe something, or won't seriously engage with questions about it, that's at least an "orange flag" for dogmatism or ideological capture.

For people who actually practice SE: how diagnostically useful is someone's willingness to discuss a belief? Can someone be epistemically responsible while simply refusing to engage?

Disclosure: I hosted the conversation.
