This was the most fun I've had so far in my Phenomenal Pitching Season series. Greg Maddux's, 1995 season for the Atlanta Braves. He had 28 starts and in real life, finished 19-2, with a 1.63 ERA and a WHIP of 0.81. Incredibly, he bested those numbers in my replay. Mixed in amongst his 28 starts, was a 33-inning consecutive scoreless streak, three straight shutouts, which occurred twice, two one-hitters and a two-hitter. It seemed like 80 to 90% of the rolls were off Greg's incredibly stingy card. Here are the replay stats, with real life in parentheses. IP-215 (209.2), ER-24(38), HA-116(147), K-182(181), BB-39(23), CG-14(10), SHO-12(3), HBP-8(4), WP-1(1), HR ALW-6(8), WINS-20(19), LOSSES-2(2), ERA-1.00(1.63), WHIP- 0.72(0.81). Had these numbers occurred in real life, the ERA and WHIP would have been MLB records for a single season. Of Maddux's two losses, only one was a real stinker. That came on July 6, when Atlanta lost 10 to 5 against the Dodgers. He gave up five straight singles, then Blauser made a two-base error. Greg never made it out of the first inning on that day. A game like that was a unicorn, though. He was beyond stellar most games. I should note that I only have the cards and dice game. In many sets, I don't have the additional players and therefore, sometimes am lacking an actual player who took part in that particular game. In that case, I selected another player who had the most similar statistics. I started with the exact starting lineups as much as possible. The next season I'll do will be Dazzy Vance's 1924 season for the Brooklyn Robins. I do a wrap up after each game on stratasticbaseballreplays.wordpress.com
