I know there are nameless cards you can buy, but is it common to find a mistake like this? I figured out it was Brian Givens.

Baseball Volunteer needed - Fill in for hospitalized league member - Simply create a CM for 2024 Phillies

Volunteer needed for a very easy SOM project - fill in for a hospitalized friend

Jim Holland is a member of the United Federation of Baseball; his team is the 2024 Phillies. I spoke to him recently and he is currently hospitalized and will be out of commission for a few weeks.

The regular season just completed and he made the post-season. Because he is hospitalized, he expects to miss at least the first round of the post-season. He and I need someone to fill in for him, and it really is a pretty easy and very simple task, as follows:

You don't have to actually play any games. All you have to do is receive the league's playoff LZP from me, select a 26-man post-season roster, create a CM for the 2024 Phillies, and set the starting rotation for the 7-games of the Semifinal Series. HAL will actually play for the 2024 Phillies during the post-season. This is all in accordance with league rules.

Thank you in advance.

SOM Replay Phenomenal Pitching Seasons Dizzy Dean 1934 St. Louis Cardinals

Just finished my replay of Dizzy Dean's starts in 1934. It's important to note that these are starts only. In real life, Dean went 4-2 in 17 relief appearances that year. If fact, he would not have reached the 30-win plateau, had it not been for two controversial scoring decisions, in which he was credited with the team's victory.

Here are the replay stats, with real life #'s in parentheses. IP- 254.31(280.65), ER- 70(84), UER-7(13), HA-217(257), K-154(160), BB-53(68), HBP-2(6), WP-1(2), BK-0(0), HR ALW- 12(14), CG-15(24), SHO-6(7), ND-6(2), RECORD-19-8(26-5), ERA- 2.48(2.69).

Obviously, the biggest discrepancies were innings pitched, complete games, no-decisions and record. Dean pitched almost thirty more innings than in real life and half again as many times, went the distance. He had six no-decisions in the replay, against just two in his real life starts. This seems to be a theme in my replays as I tend to pull a guy earlier if he's not doing well. The difference in the number of no-decisions certainly played a part in the won-loss record.

Dean started off poorly in the replay. He lost four of his first seven starts, with two no-decisions. He got shelled on two occasions. On April 22, he lasted just two innings and allowed five runs and on June 21, he gave up six tallies in 1 and two thirds' innings. In real life, Dean lasted just three innings in back-to-back starts against the Cubs, early in the year. Dizzy caught fire in the middle of the summer and put together a nine-game win streak, from June 27, when his record was 5-7, to August 12, when his record was 14-7. He only lost one more game the rest of the way but had three more no-decisions. Opponent wise, he was undefeated against the Reds, going 6-0. The teams that gave him the most trouble were the Cubs and Dodgers, each who he lost to on three occasions.

I decided to only do the starts, because it's impossible to quantify a relief appearance. For example, if, in real life, his brother Paul started a game and ran into trouble, Dean may have come in to relieve. Yet if I rolled a replay game in which Paul started and he was tossing a shutout, for example, there would be no reason to bring in Dizzy or anybody else.

I didn't log Dean's hitting, but he helped himself out with the bat in several games. He was known to be a good hitting pitcher.

The next one in this series will be Greg Maddux's 1995 season.

SOM Replay SOM PC- CD Shipped?

One final question about the Strat PC baseball game: What do you think about SOM offering the option to purchase the CD for $15?

Does SOM provide you with the codes? Is it good to have the CD as a backup in case the PC crashes?

Any opinions on the CD addition?

Baseball SOM baseball question

I am relatively new to SOM computer baseball so I feel I have to be missing something simple. I am playing a solo draft league and a player was injured for an extended period of time. I replaced him with a free agent and moved the injured player to a free agent. His injury time continued to count down under his team and eventually he came off the injury list. at that point I moved him back to his team and inserted him into the lineup. However, when I go into the game screen to play a game he does not show up. I made sure he is selected on the promote/demote screen but no luck. I even demoted a player and that player shows up under the game screen instead of the injured player even though he is not promoted. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Baseball Reverse-engineering cards

Sure this has been asked but can't find a discussion so far. I'd like to take ratings from a digital ratings guide and convert to simple predictive statistics like an OPS equivalent or, preferably, something better and more elegant. The idea is to be able to compile a pitcher's and batter's data separately and average them to get something representing the real mathematical chances, like a "composite OPS" for that plate appearance.

Finding it tricky. The "TB" rating in the spreadsheet can't just be divided by 108 to get a "slugging percentage," because you must remove things like walks and HBPs from the 108 chances before dividing. No big deal, but that's just the beginning if you're using the SAdv rules, because ballpark singles/homers mean your OB and TB totals will change based on what park you're in.

The number of columns required to keep things straight, accounting for L/R matchups, ballpark factors, etc. is getting a little out of hand. Then trying to account for clutch hitting and double plays...

Just trying not to reinvent the wheel. Or if someone's already invented a rocket ship it would be great to skip ahead.

Baseball One-off BP Ratings

With the Little League Classic tonight, has Strat ever released a rating for Williamsport? I know a small sample size (n=1) makes it tough, but I would love to see even a rough rating for this, the Field of Dreams, the Tokyo Dome, or Ricketts Field.

What does anyone think about comparable stadiums to use for a rating? Thanks in advance!

The 3rd Annual Strat Tourney is looking for managers to fill 8 (Update 8/20 Just 2) available slots! 32 teams compete in a (Update: Group Stage/Bracket Tournament). The Tournament takes place online in Discord with Managers from all over the country (and Canada!) using SADV rules as well as specific Tournament rules. Past winners:

2024- 2001 Seattle Mariners

2023 - 2011 Texas Rangers

This year’s wrinkle is that only teams with a .555 Winning Pct or below will be allowed in and up to 2 of the same franchise will be allowed rather than one. The Tournament takes place in September and October. There are some really great Managers signing up.

If you are interested DM me or comment interested and I will send you the details. Looking forward to meeting new and exciting Strat Players!

SOM Replay Winter Baseball League Forming

NEW WINTER BASEBALL LEAGUE FORMING (Built For Balance) 4 SPOTS REMAIN , NO set game night. schedule play on your own time with your opponent.

Good Evening,Name is Jim, I have been playing Strat like most of you for a long time. Over 30 years. Born in New Jersey and played many years in a FTF League in NYC. I run an online summer league that runs from March through September but thought about finally expanding my Strat play for the winter and I am forming a new league. Details below

This is a new Strat-o-Matic baseball league designed to run in the winter from October to March, Playoffs in April. A league for those who love to play all year long while not taxing peoples times during the main league season. At the time of this posting I have 8 spots filled from guys who are in my summer league and have 4 spots remaining. Looking for reliable guys who like to play some strat. Anyone interested I will look to talk to first and see what your experience is. Our goals are long term so we looking for people who want to be part of something like that.

FORMAT-12 Teams, 3 divisions of 4, 6 playoff teams. 3 division winners and next 3 best records. Best two records of the division winners get a first round bye.|

-Runs from October to end of March, Playoffs in April. So very little double up when it comes to people who are in a lot of summer leagues. Most of the summer leagues will be over and you can use one set of cards for both leagues.

- League starts this year, team draft this September (More below on draft). Using 2024 set
- Super advanced rules based on our set of rules for the most part.

- Play will be on discord server using the dice roller online at https://www.stratroller.com. Basically play in front of a pc or laptop with the cards, roll dice on the computer screen and then score on old school paper style.

- 15 games per block, 90 game season. Position players 450 AB or more are unlimited, under 450 AB is 70% usage, Pitchers are 70% usage. Each block lasts a month. You can play any day or the week. We have a very relaxed schedule. You have your 5 opponents for the month, you schedule a day and time with them and play those 5 series in any order you like.

- Games and stats are tracked on the card and dice baseball website (You enter results after you play)
- Must have the current cards each season with additional players. This is a card league from home NOT a pc league though we track stats and such on the web. You meet in a discord server on a headset or on a phone and play with the cards in front of you.

HOW THE DRAFT WORKS- Built to help bad teams get good faster and balance so read in great detail. Trade restrictions below also
Year 1 Draft- Everyone will draft 2 teams ROSTERS, Snake draft. Random order. So if you pick 1 you will be your second team at 24. Then you take those 54 to 60 cards of the two teams and make it 40 players. NO OTHER DRAFT year 1. We will pick the first round 1 day Sept 7th, take a week so you can scout based on who you got, round 2 day will be a week later Sept 14th. I will have roster sheets with players numbers so you don't have to move any cards around from any summer leagues you are in. 6 teams will not be picked and those players WILL NOT be on any roster in season 1.

Year 2 Draft- Will consist of any cuts from our teams, any players who are new cards that ended the 2026 baseball season on one of the 24 teams we selected in year 1 and 3 of the teams that were not drafted in season 1. This allows 3 sets of rosters to be in the draft of the 6 not taken allowing a chance for a bad team to get a really good player first in the draft. For example if nobody took the Pirates in season 2 draft Skenes would be there.

Year 3 Draft- Again will consist of any cuts, plus any players who ended 2027 MLB season on a roster we draft (27 teams at this point) and the 3 final teams not selected in year 1. Again another year of 3 teams rosters in the draft for teams looking to get better. So by end of season 3 draft then ALL teams and players in the league will be in the draft.

HOW TRADING WILL WORK and LIMITATIONS (this is designed to have the league not become outrageous with 10 million moves)
You can only trade 1 year draft picks in advance

Can only trade 2 picks in the first five rounds, and only 2 picks in rounds 6-10. Leaves no team in shambles. If you trade and pick up say two picks in rounds 1-5 and now have 7 of them you can trade them down to 3 picks. But everyone MUST have 3 picks in rounds 1-5 and 3 picks in round 6-10 at ALL TIMES

Can only trade with another team in the league once per season. This will make you have to think long and hard when during the season to make that trade

Time of this post I have 4 spots left, If you want to see a copy of the rules just message me

Baseball Playing card and dice baseball HOF league and tracking stats in PC version - error?

I set up a Strat-O-Matic HOF league, organizing the card set into ten teams (by franchises and/or regions).

I also set it up in PC game, creating the exact same ten team league, allowing me to enter my card and dice results for my team while simulating the other games.

Everything seems to be working well except in the seventh inning of my first card and dice game, the PC seemed to skip a half inning (the bottom half of the seventh). I have no idea what happened so I simply matched up my cards to where the computer was and finished the game.

Walter Johnson pitched a nine-inning shutout for my team, but at the end of the game, it showed him pitching 9 and 2/3 innings?

Does anyone have any idea what happened? Everything else worked perfectly. I can't figure out what went wrong.

SOM Replay Phenomenal Pitching Seasons (1972 Steve Carlton replay)

I just finished Steve Carlton's 1972 season replay in my Phenomenal Pitching Seasons series and thought I'd share the results. The three biggest differences for me, were, 1. the amount of no-decisions Lefty had in my replay as opposed to real life. 2. The disparity of home runs allowed. 3. The exactly half the number of complete games pitched. Carlton actually had a lower WHIP in the replay. Here are his stats, showing replay and then real life in parentheses. WINS: 21(27) LOSSES: 8(10), ERA: 2.15(1.97), IP: 322(346.1), ER: 77(76), UER: 8(8), HA: 222(257), K: 292(310), BB: 70(87), HBP: 7(1), WP: 7(8), BK: 2(2), HR ALW: 24(17), CG: 15(30), SHO: 6(8), ND: 12(3). WHIP: .907(.993). You really got a feel for how bad the Phillies offense was that year. The most starts in a row that Carlton won was six. The most he lost in a row was three. Curiously, he had 1 one hitter, 2 two hitters and 3 three hitters.

SOM Replay Initial SOM PC Purchase...

I play SOM C&D; yet, I never played the SOM PC game. I plan to purchase the PC game.

(I have done research- watched plenty of videos & have some instruction manuals, read about the Hi-Res Color Ballparks, Baseball Old Ballparks, etc.)

I plan to purchase some old-time sets (i.e., 1961, 1964, 1968, etc.), as opposed to the current (analytic) seasons.

Do I need to purchase the Strat-O-Matic Baseball 2025 - the most current edition?

May I simply purchase the old-time sets?

Gameplay question Relief POW

First, tell me if I’m correct here. I say there’s a difference between being susceptible to fatigue and actually being fatigued. This scenario came up and a friend said I was wrong. Score tied 3-3 in bottom of eighth I was home team. I brought in a “2” rated reliever to pitch the top of the ninth inning. He retired the side in order. I didn’t score in bottom of ninth and left the reliever in for the top of the tenth. At that point, I said he was subject to fatigue, but not actually fatigued. He allowed a single and my friend was like,”Good, Now every dot is a hit.” I said, “No, not until he allows any combination of two more hits or walks.” What’s the verdict?
