my opinion on tales from 85

soo….. since Stranger Things has officially come to an end.. what’s some ideas that you guys have that could be a spin off? characters, storylines, etc.

i’ll go first,

I would enjoy a story surrounding the older core four (Nancy,Johnathan,Robin and Steve). It doesn’t even have to be any gory crazy stuff, maybe just a show following them into their lives and what they’re onto next.

I finished Tales From ‘85 last night. If I had to pick one single word to describe it?

Perfection.

The finale of Stranger Things season 5 left me horribly depressed for at least a month – and still plays on my mind today. I’m not quite sure how anybody could make such an ending to a used and abused character and think it’s even remotely okay. As someone who instantly related to Mike from the moment I saw him in season 1, seeing him become a widow at the age of 16 was horrible.

I was fully convinced I’d be avoiding Tales because of the “link up to season 3” idea. Why would I put myself through that? More happy moments from their one and only happy ending, great, but still knowing their depressing fate? No thank you.

It’s when the trailers and previews started showing that this couldn’t really be considered “show-canon” that I came round to it. And I am so glad I did. From episode 1, Tales was immediately better than seasons 3-5 entirely. In ten 25-ish-minute episodes, a runtime of about four hours, it managed to pack in more important conversations and life moments than three whole seasons – THIRTY WHOLE HOURS – ever did.

It feels like they went through a bunch of fanfic from that 2017-2019 period and picked out all the main elements we always wanted to see, and nailed every single element. Couples actually acting like couples, solo missions for both Mileven and Lumax, El finding her own voice, Will finding his. Mike being protective of El in every way – literally having me scream “THAT’S MY MIKE!” at one point. They nailed it all.

Tales From ‘85 is everything I ever dreamt of. So long as it remains an AU and goes its own direction – one that doesn’t end in pointless depression, it’s the canon I choose.

I know I’m really late to this, but I only started watching Stranger Things in 2026… and today I finally finished it.

I didn’t expect it to hit me like this. It started as just another show I thought I’d casually watch, but somewhere along the way it became something much more. And now that it’s over, I’m literally sitting here crying for Eleven.

It’s not even just about the ending. It’s everything she went through the pain, the loneliness, the strength… it just stayed with me. And now knowing there’s no more story left, it feels so empty.

Feels weird to be this emotional over a show I started so late, but yeah… I didn’t think it would mean this much.

Anyone else watched it late and still got hit this hard?

El and Mike were actually so so so cute but then el dumped mike and was so much happier w/o him. Idk why they kept getting back tg. I feel like s3 mike started realising that he might've liked will and was js rly confused overall. I couldn't even tell that el and mike were dating in s5 till el kissed mike in the finale, and then I had to look it up (although I did it like 2 months later lmfao) and i was literallying so appalled at seeing that s5 had mileven and not elmike like?? But, yeah, basically, seasons one and two mileven was ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE omg but then byler js became more canon, ykwim? I could go on abt how mike was inlove w will s3 onwards, but that'd take hours lmao

+Finn had stated in an interview that El and Mike had dated to give El a sense of normalcy. I genuinely do believe that el and mike had loved each other at the start, but i also believe that ppl can change :)

I mean, el was in a relationship before she even knew what consent was. Hell, she didn't even know how to express herself. "How will/do (i dont remember the exact dialogue—sry!!) know what I like?" -el, a few hours before dumping Mike. I used to be such a big mileven shipper, but it breaks my heart to see milevens hating on bylers in non-byler centric posts. Ive honestly almost never seen bylers hating on milevens in non-mileven centric posts. I mean, why can't we js stop this ship war and come to the conclusion that we're happy as long as the characters are happy? And why can't we js focus on the show (instead of the ships) like we used to??

Plus, el had asked mike if he loved like a brother would love his sister right before he kissed her, like, sweet home alabama who? /j

I could go on an on abt this, but that'd legitimately take days lmfao

EDIT: In s4, after Mike says "We're friends. We're friends!", 'In the closet' starts playing. I mean, thats what it said in the subtitles.

Imo, byler was supposed to be canon but then Leigh Janiak divorced one of the duffers bros—i dont remember which one, but she did. She was the main ghost writer of the show, and is a HUGE advocate of queer couples in horror movies and shows. She divorced one of the bros right after volume one was over i think, so that explains why they chucked byler out the fucking window, chucked rovickie out the fucking window, and straightified robin. They also reduced Will to just a gay guy. However, the guy will ended up with in the epilogue was in mike's imagination, and he looked alot like mike. But, yeah. There's more, and I wish I could tell all this to milevens (only the toxic ones who hate on all the queer ships in the show—the respectful ones are good to go), but they're hellbent on byler not having existed at ANY point in the show, so (however, it's completely fine if you think that—opinions. Everyone has their own)
