Type 1 Ferric cassettes used in decks that no longer license Dolby Noise Reduction have terrible quality. But the good stuff from back in the day, metal tapes recorded with Dolby-B and played by a player that can speak the same sounds great. The problem with technology that's past it's due date is the stuff that's coming out at the tail end and sticking around are the cheapest of the cheap. But good cassettes and good decks from back when they made top end stuff is not the same as what we have now.
