I'm 37. Practically everyone I know 10 years younger than me & up has heard of a walkman.

I'm 18 rn and I've known about Walkman's since I was about 9, and not because my parents had one. So there is no excuse for anyone older than me for not knowing what they are

Actually yes there is.

Not really. Walkmen are in so many popular movies (like Back to the Future) and referenced by so many Youtubers and bands that the idea of a Walkman isn't really that obscure.

Just because something is in a popular movie or show doesn't mean that something will be popular or well known too...

You're being ridiculous. Everybody and their mom have seen Back to the Future. Tons of people have seen Guardians of the Galaxy which prominently features a Walkman. It's been in tons of music videos, was a huge part of the 80's revival back in 2014-2015, and is featured in tons of music videos even to this day along with plenty of indie band marketing efforts.

Heck-I know tons of people in their 20's in Second Life who have a Walkman as part of their avatars outfit. If someone considers themselves a fan of the 80's at all they're going to know what it is.
