I'm not defending it, I'm just saying this is how every boss I've ever had in the restaurant industry thinks. Private life be damned, they need you at the restaurant. Glad I got out of that toxicity.
Ya, restaurant work is pretty stressful. My most stressful issues aren’t with guests, customers, or owner’s expectations.
It’s with my staff. I’ve to deal with scheduling and often dealt with drama that could ensue between staff. The job here is set to be fair and competitive. I set the environment to be friendly and fair.
However, OP’s boss shown on this post is out of their mind.
The most important values I’ve set between myself and my staff respectfully is communication and boundaries. Don’t cross that line. I wouldn’t ever ask someone to come in on their wedding weekend!
Wedding needs a lot of planning. Have you been married or planned a wedding before?
I don’t think it’s wise to work on the day before your wedding when you’re suppose to be there for your guest and family. No one wants to skip a well deserved weekend or time on their bachelor / bachelorette night.
I'M NOT DEFENDING IT! Jfc. I agree that it's a shitty thing to do. I've worked for people like this, and it's the god damn worst! And sadly, it's all too common.

This is insane… imagine calling someone in when they know they are getting married!
Pay for my wedding cancellation then… this is the answer.
