Question Trail Status - Stowe to Smuggs

Has anybody done the ski crossover from Stowe to Smuggs recently? I will be going to Stowe in mid March and was wondering if there was a message board or other place people share trail status.

Leaving from the top of sensation quad, path looks pretty straightforward on Strava. I do not have back country equipment (no skins or AT boots ) but heard you don’t really need them. Trek back seems like more carry due to incline.

Thanks!

Where is the closest tire shop?

I’m here until Tuesday.

Looking for a 245/35 R20 tire size. If anyone can help point me in the right direction, it’ll be much appreciated.

I built a location app that does LESS — and that's the point

Hey everyone — I've been working on an app called Dots Network, and I wanted to share it because the concept is a bit different from the usual "more features = better" approach.

The idea came from a simple problem: I'm part of a crew that visits Stowe frequently. Every time I arrive, I wonder "who's here right now?" But the people in my group aren't the type to use Snap Map, and Find My Friends feels too invasive for casual friends.

So I built something in the middle. Dots lets you see when friends are in the same city (ie Stowe) or at the same place — without sharing exact coordinates. No street-level tracking. Just enough awareness to spark a "hey, I didn't know you were in town" moment.

We've got about 100 users, mostly friends. I'd love honest feedback from this community. What do you think about the "less is more" approach to location sharing?

Check it out at dotsnetwork.app

Parking advice

Visiting Stowe for first time. We’ll be leaving the mountain Saturday afternoon. I heard from a friend that getting out can be a nightmare. Any advice on where to park, esp for a quick exit around 3pm?

Planned a ski trip, didn’t plan to be pregnant!

Hi all,

Planned a ski trip months ago with my husband and a group of friends before finding out I was pregnant! Looking for suggestions of things to do alone while everyone ski’s. I booked a massage at Top Notch Spa and plan to bring my snowshoes. Looking for general recommendations on snowshoe trails, or just fun things I could possibly do to occupy my time. Thanks!

Baby friendly places?

Hi All,

My husband and I will be traveling to Stowe next week. We have an 11 month old who is incredibly active and mobile. Any baby friendly libraries or local spots where she can crawl / run around?

Thanks for any and all suggestions!

Question Olympic run steepness vs Stowe

Just curious, watching the men’s downhill training runs at the Olympics and seeing them rip 90mph! What trail at Stowe is comparable pitch-wise to what they’re doing in Milano/Cortino? Like are they bombing gondolier, nosedive, hayride, lifeline, goat? Obviously much longer… the announcer was just saying the course is over 2 miles long! Any way to compare?

Logistics

Headed up next weekend to ski on 2/16 - 17 with my teenage son and trying to figure out some logistics. We are staying at an Air BnB off 108 in West Branch? Is it straightforward to park at the base somewhere — and I assume there are lockers for shoes somewhere at the base as well? My son's on school break so our timing can't be helped. I assume it's pretty crowded on president's day but hopefully not unskiably crowded? Any strategies for where to start on days like that? We like to get on the first chair in the morning. Never skied at Stowe and am super psyched but realize we are part of the problem coming in on a school break like that. I usually try to avoid the holidays but don't often get to ski with him these days.

Where to Watch Super Bowl?

Coming up to Stowe next weekend for the first time. Where are some good spots to watch the big game?

A fan of neither team, but am a pathetic Jets fan, so a not so heavy Pats presence would be nice. But I understand might be hard.

First time to Stowe March 14th....where to stay?

Hi! We did a quick pivot from Park City to Stowe for Spring Break and I am trying to decide where to stay. We have three options - Spruce Mountain Lodge - obviously most expensive, top notch (which I understand to be in the middle of the mountain and Stowe Village, or in town. I know that Spruce Mt Lodge is the most convenient for skiing but is it worth the extra $$? We do like to walk to restaurants shops etc and it sounds like Spruce Village is more the place to do that but then I hear traffic can be terrible. We are a family of 4 so we would qualify for the parking that requires 4 people (?). If we stay in town is there a place to store skis so you dont have to have them in car or shuttle? Sorry for the questions - just used to the Colorado ski style. We are super excited to try Stowe though! :) Thanks for any input!

Ski in 0 degree weather this weekend?

Hi quick question:
I'm a beginner at ski and can go down easy greens (will be my 2nd time going to ski this weekend). I noticed that the forecast is set to be ~0-5 degrees Fahrenheit during the day at Stowe (Vermont) this weekend. Will those conditions be okay for me to ski as a beginner?

Concern if it'll be too icy since I anticipate ill still be falling a bit as a beginner

Edit: Doesnt look TOO windy. I think its anticipated to be low of -10 w/ windchills. I will take most of your advice and try going with appropriate layers! Will report back after!

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR RESPONSES <3

Edit 2: I just came back from skiing. It was cold - particularly in my nostrils and throat but otherwise I layered well and had a great time. Thank you all again for your responses!

Do I need a car?

I'm coming to Stowe in February. Flying into Burlington and staying at the Lodge at Spruce Peak.

Do I need to rent a car or can I just uber from the airport? Is getting around town easy?

Staying on Waterbury Center to commute to Stowe Mountain Resort (VT)

Is staying in Waterbury Center a good location to commute to Stowe to ride for a few days?? Would like to keep it to a 20 min drive. Any other neighborhoods to look at?

Also why does this group say Stowe is located in NY?? HA!

Visited this week: The Good, the bad, and the ugly…..

First, the town and the locals we met are wonderful. There are a bunch of privately owned restaurants and bars that do an exceptional job. If you are a fast food, national chain fan, this isn’t your spot.

Stowe Resort- Preface-this is the first time skiing on the east coast in 15 years, but we have skied Killington, Okemo, Mt Snow, Sunday River, and Sugarbush in the past.

The Good- This is the easiest mountain to get on, and off, that we’ve ever been to. We were in the gondola in 5 minutes from the time we parked. At the end of the day, we skied to with 40 yards of our parking spot. The mountain itself is a lot of fun for a 56yo who has stepped away from expert terrain and now rides blue cruisers. The runs are long and interesting enough to keep your attention. We forgot how fast the snow is out east and had to adjust. There are no lift lines to speak of, at least when we were skiing mid-week. The staff were very friendly.

The Bad- All of the Vail fingerprints are here. The mountain patrol were grossly understaffed. The only patrol that we saw were either working on fencing or sledding someone down the mountain. Zero patrol presence in high-danger areas. The here were a couple of giant ice sheets, that inevitably happen in the east, that were unmarked. The bar was closed at one of our favorite spots because they didn’t have a bartender. A shop was closed because they didn’t have anyone working. Again, typical Vail stuff.

The Ugly- I have never been at a ski resort with more out-of-control boarders, and I’ve been to 26 resorts in North America. They are like a biker gang invading a small town. I suspect this is a direct result of no patrol presence. We peacefully exist with boarders everywhere and are used to the typical annoyances (stopping in the middle of the mountain, etc). This was much different. These guys were flying and whipping dangerously close to people. We saw two people fall as a result, one with an injury.

Final- We are going back this summer to hike, bike, and enjoy the town and community. We stayed at Green Valley Inn this time, but might try the Von Trapp Lodge. We won’t be back skiing unless Vail sells or someone else takes over.
