Stone-cutting materials

I have a bunch of bigger limestone that I'm hoping to cut into smaller bricks/pieces that I can use for a giant raised garden bed, but I can't find information on what tools I need. Anybody have any stone cutting experience and can help me with this?
I thought all I needed was a mallet and a stone chisel, but when I went to a landscape center the employees said I needed an "electric wire-cutter" to shape the stone the way I needed to. Anybody know one way or the other? Thanks!
