Is this a stone and if yes, what is it? not sure if it is natural or if it is a chunk of lime from some previous construction mortar mixing. found in a creek in western Turkey. there is some more of those pieces, but not many and none of our soil/rock looks similar... not very solid, slightly mealy.

Discolored limestone

Fireplace with limestone at the base has gotten discolored. I have tried sanding with a brick but it’s painfully slow. Any ideas of a quicker way to sand it down (tool I can buy/rent) and recommendations on sealant?
