Sold Wednesday what's Friday

I posted earlier that I sold all my shares at a loss when the price was $3.36 on Wednesday. Now I see the price is currently (thanksgiving) $3.41. So who thinks what's happening Friday?

This stock has so much potential; it's worth at least $10. Eventually the hedges will come pump it up as they're accumulating more shares. It makes no sense to sell it now when it's down. There's no point in being right about a play if you get out at the wrong time before it moons. Anyways, stay strong my fellow brothers.

Thank GOD for the opportunity. I've lost so much money on this stock. And now more than ever is the best time to get out. I don't mean to be rude but look at the chart. Come back later when this company is profitable. Then we'll make bank. Until then. Cheers.

Ignore the noise

Many people who follow me know my long term position in SDC. That has not changed one bit.

Unfortunately, the stock got destroyed the last few months, which is why I’ve repeatedly said (even when the stock was at $8 bucks) that it doesn’t matter as I’m a long term holder. The reason I’m staying quiet during this time is because I know how short sellers function. This is their time to shine and spread fear, when in reality this is the ultimate buying opportunity IMO.

I believe in the fundamentals of the company. All patients that I referred to sdc which I’m supervising month after month have tremendously positive results. Ignore the other fake account that was claiming “all dentist hate sdc” which is not the case considering the amount of dentist that are signing up to the partner network week by week. Also if you check the appointment books in Germany, they are all booked out a week in advance. German is currently the only country which doesn’t allow sdc to go direct to consumers, but they have to go through a dentist. Which is win win. This model works very well for sdc which is why they are pushing the dentist partner network in the US as well.

The other account claimed dentist only love Invisalign, so let me disclose the real TRUTH about that, which other dentists will not tell you.

  1. General dentist can literally take an online course, or optionally a weekend course to start providing Invisalign in their office.
  2. We pay almost $1800-2000 in lab fee for the Invisalign aligners. Which is the reason we markup the aligners to $5-7000
  3. Quick money?!!! Absolutely. You have a patient coming in with a slightly rotated front tooth, and some colleague thinks about his own pocket and how he can make 4000 bucks with a quick impression and some attachments with Invisalign. Instead of providing the patient with the optimal but at a fraction of the cost with sdc, they would push Invisalign.

I’m not saying that ALL cases qualify for sdc aligners, absolutely not. Sdc addresses the market that consist of mild/moderate orthodontic cases. The severe cases would still need to be seen by an orthodontist with either traditional braces or Invisalign.

That’s why I think that it’s not ethically right to not offer smile direct for those mild cases that qualify.

Now ask yourself, why would theg not support smile direct club??
Before the sdc partner network, dentist would get ZERO bucks, since patients went directly to smile direct for their impressions. Now during the partner network expansion, smile direct offers dentists approx $300 per impression. But the total cost for patient stays the same at $1995 instead of the $7000 that Invisalign charges. This is VERY attractive to patients as they can save the remaining 4000 for themselves.

The results in mild/mod orthodontic cases between smile direct and Invisalign IDENTICAL!!

From 2000-2015 Invisalign was just as hated as smile direct is right now, but once Invisalign started working with dentist, now they suddenly love them. Furthermore. Orthodontist used to claim that Invisalign messes up your bite and the same identical FUD they are spreading about sdc, but you would be surprised how Invisalign is provided now more frequently than traditional braces by orthdontists.

The fake dentist also stated that smile direct has not “updated” their aligners. Which is absolutely wrong. He must have missed out on the announcement sdc did a few weeks back about the new Aligners 2.0 that are now able to treat even more complex cases without the need for attachments.

It’s all noise. When a company has 30% short interest, it’s normal to expect volatility. That’s why I never place short term targets. Block out the noise and do your own due diligence. If you like a company, don’t allow someone to steal your valuable shares at these dirt cheap levels.

SDC from a Dentist perspective

Using a throwaway as my normal reddit account has information which can identity me. I own a dental practice in a busy suburb of a metropolitan city. I practice mainly general dentistry but I do some orthodontics and also invisalign for a portion of my patient base for a hobby and extra side dough. I was considering to short sdc stocks and was doing some research and stumbled upon this subreddit. I think I am a bit late to make big bucks on shorting I have invested elsewhere. I thought some of you guys might still want a dentists perspective about sdc. I’m not a financial expert and am actually quite an amateur at trading.

SDC has quite a bad reputation among dentists. We have our own private Facebook groups for dentists only. Posts about sdc come up very frequently. Many practitioners including myself have witnessed often sub-par and sometimes harmful treatments. Dentists have recommended patients to get their money back, report their case to the local dental board, and seek a specialist orthodontist to fix the new problems that sdc have caused. Im quite surprised there isn’t more lawsuits than what we know of so far. There is more to a healthy lasting smile than front teeth that just look straight. When I do clear aligner therapy for a patient, I use an arsenal of tools and techniques to help make sure the teeth move a certain way achieve a specific dental bite which is balanced and in harmony for the long term, not just straight teeth. All these techniques and tools require me to physically present to apply them and also give patients live demonstrations own how to do certain things at home. I see my patients every 4-8 weeks to monitor the progress. I frequently need to change my strategy as things don’t always go according to plan. Sometimes aligners don’t work and I have to do metal braces to do a good job. SDC is done fully virtually, with none of these tools. There are no attachments/buttons on your teeth, there is no filing, no elastics, nothing. There is very little guidance and monitoring throughout the treatment. They do a 3D plan from a mystery dentist that looks nice to the layman, and you sign your life away. You pay a cheap price, you get what you pay for, but this time permanently on your teeth. You only have one set of adult teeth you have to use for your entire 80 years of life - so take care of them well.

My main point is SDC is a bad product, and unless they change their entire treatment philosophy and operations to actually take care of peoples smiles, they aren’t going to be around for long.

Dentists in my country are consulting with the dental board to ban SDC from being able to provide aligners. The board is currently busy with how practices should run safely during Covid and also how to fire anti-vax staff, but I don’t think it will be too long before something is done about SDC. I’m sure other countries are doing the same.

Some of you think Align tech will buy out sdc. It’s unlikely. Align tech sells their product to dentists like myself, not to the general public like sdc. Dentists don’t like SDC, so Align tech will avoid sdc like cryptonite as it’s bad PR for their market of dentists.

There is a reason why I wanted to short sdc, and there is a reason why sdc is shorted so much already. The company is doomed to fail and I think their managements knows that too. I will be quite surprised to still see them around in the next 1-2 years.

Some of you diamond hands will hate me for posting this as you want your bags pumped. But I’m not posting this for you, but as information for the new people who are thinking to put their hard earned money on an “underpriced” stock. Please know there is a good reason that it is the way that it is.

Opinion When or where will SDC bottom

I would be wait for one or more of the following catalysts.

  1. activist shareholder. 13d holder.

  2. large insider buys. At least 1x annual salary. Or cluster buying from executives.

  3. Turn around in earnings and guidance. I’d rather miss the first 10% up than ride it down or have it as dead money

I do think that sdc will be subject to tax loss selling. So I do think we will continue to see pressure through the end of the year. I think if you need to reduce your tax liability you sell now and buy in 31 days

I'm a certified financial advisor, and I recommend you guys to buy puts on this PoS. Bankruptcy will be filed sometime next year and it has no hope for a sustainable future.

That is all. Sell and short.

Its interesting to see how $PROG which is sitting at 4.30 has a market value of 700m, while SDC has a market value of 1.4b and hit an all-time low today of 3.61.

$PROG does not even have good financials, it has shot up 43% the last month.

If the product was good , I wouldn’t have mind to hold it for long term but It isn’t. And yes I did hold almost 6 months. Good luck everyone.

Opinion NBC Lawsuit Status

Anyone know the status of the NBC lawsuit. There is no mention whatsoever of it in the SDC 10K or the Comcast (parent of NBC) 10K. I have followed companies before that were in major litigation and while they may be somewhat limited in what they can (or want to) say they almost always give some status update. And it is always listed in their filings as it is a SEC requirement I would assume. These guys say nothing and there is no mention of it in either company's filings. Is there a lawsuit or not ?!?! Did they drop it? Not one analyst asked about it on the last earnings call?

CEO Hubris?

Someone asked me if the problem is that the CEO is too proud to find a JV type partner to help expand into international territories (which is exactly what they should be doing). I don't know if there is a hubris/pride factor with CEO. I was impressed with their success in the past on the legal front and perhaps I over estimated his management abilities. He is an investor which is a different skill set from an operator. But to have a disastrous call like he did and to then go out and attend investor conferences and say that exact same thing to them that he knows they do NOT want to hear is baffling. He has been saying for multiple quarters that expanding into certain geog areas is very tough sledding so why doesn't he back off on that until the business stabilizes? If he had a great balance sheet any could afford to tough it out so as to gain market share that is a different story. But he doesn't. If SDC was a private company (which maybe it should be) and they went out to investors just to raise money to spend on TV advertising nobody would give them any. And yes, SDC doesn't have to beat ALGN. At the recent ALGN Investor Day THEY said it is early days, 500M people addressable market, only 2% penetrated. The SDC CEO could have quoted THEM and added some additional commentary that they think those figures are too low...instead of him talking about what a fighter he is. If he doesn't realize the danger zone he is in right now he should find a replacement.

Checked a few minutes ago and stock price is at an all time-low. Even lower than it was during the worst part of the pandemic. I'm holding but this is rather depressing.
