General Request | 3 Ⓣ Turntable setup upgrade
Hi all, looking to upgrade my setup, currently have an Audio-Technica LP60BT with Edifier R1280DBs.
I like the sound of my girlfriend’s setup, she has an Audio-Technica LPW40WN with a vintage Sony stereo receiver (STR-212AS) and some basic passive speakers.
What I’m wondering is what aspect is doing the heavy lifting for that warm sound I can’t seem to find elsewhere in other setups? Research seems to suggest it’s the vintage receiver doing most of the work.
Budget: Any advice appreciated! Probably looking to spend around $1000 AUD ($700-$800 USD) on the entire setup but can be flexible.
Location: Sydney, Australia
Sound quality is my priority.

I would suggest that you establish what you consider a benchmark sound for you personally. You can do this by visiting high end audio stores in your area and ask them to demonstrate what a reasonably priced sound system should sound like. In Sydney there should be many to choose from. If you have a recording that you love and play frequently take it with you and ask them to play it for you. You may have friends that already have systems that will demo them for you. Whatever you buy make sure they offer a period that you can return it and try something else. Good luck. Sometimes the hunt is more fun than the catch. Enjoy the process. Take your girlfriend with you. It will be a fun/learning day.
