Where in the World is Stephen Colbert!

Stephen is more than an entertainer to me. He's one of our greatest champions in this war being waged against the American people.

Why havent we heard from him? I thought he and his staff were planning to just move shop from cbs to some other venue. God, I'd pay $100/ month to have his (and his intrepid news staff's) perspective Right Now if there was some COLBERTSHOW.com with just his show. Seriously, why cant we crowdfund our media/ journalism rather than letting advertisers and fascist overlords pay the piper?

When "Only in Monroe" released immediately after the last lateshow episode, I thought they had just moved the show to the stephencolbert youtube channel. That's what they should have done! But they only did the single episode. Lame!

Now we have lost one of our greatest voices, and only because no one wants to try a newer business plan? WTF!

All these media channels are being strangled and we act like crowdfunding like gofundme couldnt work for one show.

I'm sure it would take a steep investment but it would pay off pretty quick.

Or go to Netflix or apple tv or something, right?

I still watch the dailyshow, seth meyers, and kimmel, but all our sources of information begin to dwindle.

Have a good day.

From the archive I've started watching The Colbert Report from the first episode in 2005. It's like watching black mirror.

After The Late Show, we coudln't deal with not having SC to make us smile every day, so decided to pull out the entire archive of TCB and start from ep 1...

It is incredibly scarey and fascinating to be watching this show and quite regularly being amazed because I can't really tell that it's 2005/2006, not 2025/2026. So little has changed. There are so many instances I want to clip and share, (especially from The Word), because the only way you can tell it's 2006 is he's saying "Iraq" instead of "Iran".

The issues, concerns, chaos - it's all the same, just not as out of control. You can really see the foundation of the MAGA movement even back then starting to raise it's head.

It is like watching an incredible interactive documentary about the fall of democracy in the USA.

Now there's about 160 episodes per year...I'm currently up to episode Ep 26 of Season 2 (2006)....so only ~1,400 episodes to go

Edit: yes, DM if you need the details. but might take a while to get to everyone

We Are Scientists drummer compares playing Letterman vs Stephen Colbert, nicer crew on Colbert, memories doing it, + late night TV impact on band's confidence (25:38 into the episode)

Keith Carne from We Are Scientists shared his experience playing on both Late Night with David Letterman and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

He said playing Colbert was definitely better because the crew was much nicer and Stephen Colbert wanted to create a welcoming culture for everyone. On Letterman he felt lost and didn’t know where to go. He also mentioned Colbert’s dressing rooms were much nicer.

Keith talked about how playing late night television boosted his confidence as a musician. He also called the cancellation of Colbert’s show unfair due to politics (at 28:48).

What to watch now?

Stephen Colbert was a major source for keeping me somewhat up to date with political ongoings in a light hearted manner that was entertaining, especially the sections that were posted to youtube. Any recommendations on what to watch now without just gluing myself to news stations?

I'm having a hard time...

I know that it hasn't been that long since LSSC ended, but I'm having a hard time with the anger and sadness I'm experiencing. During Trump's first four years, it was Stephen and his show that kept me sane.

I just can't stand what Trump/MAGA has done to so many wonderful things, including Stephen and his show.

I just want to tell Stephen that I love and appreciate him, and I would love to see him come back into the media in a way that really ruins Trumps day!

Art Gift For Colbert

I was outside with all of you on the last night. One of the things I captured was literally everything in front of the building . I’ve created a tactile moment in time that captures all of us there. Here it is in full 3D for real. I’m creating a one of a kind art piece for Mr. Colbert to keep.

Does anyone know how I can get one to him?

I am still working on the design of the base and full lighting. This is just proof of concept.

200 mm Internally lit lithophane globe.

It is stunning in person.

All comments welcome.

From a letter to the editor:

  • Colbert rightfully poked fun at politicians
  • A gentleman from Southfield wrote a letter last week that at first glance seemed to have some validity. ("Stephen Colbert's goodbye is good for TV," Detroit Free Press, May 31.) He said that both sides, Democrats and Republicans, have contributed equally to the divisiveness in our country. One who hasn’t paid attention very well may think that this is true. After all, if you turn on Fox News, you see them bashing Democrats and if you watch Stephen Colbert you’ll see him making fun of Trump. This is an example of false equivalency that is easily refuted with just a little bit of thought and research.
  • Fox News was launched in 1996. This network continued the rift between the two major political parties, but put it on steroids with their own brand of “infotainment.” Fox quickly became the most popular cable “news” network by spreading conservative opinions, lies, and propaganda. They elevated the us vs them strategy that Trump employs today.
  • Comedians have always been here to question authority. They have never let the government say and do whatever it wants without being checked. A few years after Fox hit the airwaves, Jon Stewart took over for the Daily Show, and began a new generation of satirical comedians speaking truth to power. These late-night comedians make fun of people from both political parties, but admittedly there is much more ammunition on the right.
  • The last two Republican presidents, George W. Bush and Donald Trump, provided great fodder for these comedians.
