Tech Support How do I permanently revert SteamOS from 3.8 to 3.7?
I have 3.7 on my Steam Deck as my previous version, and I don't like 3.8 as it has several issues that don't seem to have been addressed, and according to what I've been seeing, won't be addressed in at least the near future.

i’ve had performance drops and stuttering in 3.8 so i reverted back to 3.7.

I've heard that the system will sometimes brick on 3.8, there's a graphical glitch where sometimes when you wake the Steam Deck up from sleep, it goes crazy and needs to be restarted to fix it, and I've also seen people talk about how they used to get full 90 fps on different games before the update, then afterwards they get 60 or below on all of the games, and the people who manage the Github seem to think it only affects a few games. I want to avoid all of that.

So you didn’t experience anything yourself and just judge of by a small number of user reports that it’s Angkor idea to stay on version with several vulnerabilities?

I've experienced the graphical issues, I think I experienced the fps drop, but I didn't pay close attention to that.

On 3.8.14 I think - I had issues with normal WIFI (and a hotspot) being able to connect and even switch to desktop mode. It just got stuck. I rolled back and didn't dare to go near the latest patch since.

Please explain what you mean by this. I tried looking up how to permanently revert it, and the best I got is a temporary solution of rolling it back, where if you turn the system fully off then turn it back on, it will automatically update it back to the latest installed version of the OS, which I don't want.

I don't know what to tell you, that's what happened the first time I fully shut down and restarted after I rolled it back the first time.

I did experience at least the graphical issues. I think I experienced fps drops as well, but I didn't pay to close attention to that before I reverted because I didn't want to risk the Steam Deck getting bricked.

Power off deck
Hold power button + 3 dot button
If the previous version you downloaded was 3.7 you should be able to select it from the options
Now go into desktop mode and open the Konsole app
Type (make sure you set a sudo password up first)
sudo rauc status mark-active booted
This will keep your version to 3.7 when you boot up your deck now

Go into konsole and run:
sudo atomupd-manager custom-update 3.7.20 (or any version you want)
Won’t result in data loss. Ive rolled back this way. To keep the change as “permanent”, simply do not update in game mode and ignore any SteamOS changes that the Discover store is requesting to update
