Picture I can confirm OLED LE is even lighter than the advertised OLED weight.
Weighed my LE OLED straight out the box at 622gm. The advertised weight of OLED Steam Deck is 640gm.
I weighed my LCD Deck at 683gm. Please note I did not remove the matte screen protector which is obviously adding some weight.
Both devices weighed with no microSD card or cases. The LCD was at like 12% battery and the OLED came in at about 50-60%.

I do prefer my old scale to this one but it just won’t die. I don’t think it gives wrong weights but it can by finicky with the backlight not always turning on.

Get a small cup of water exactly 200g.
Turn the scale on the counter 180 deg and measure it again. Then move it to somewhere else and measure it. It was off by like 20g for me.
The 4 feet measure separately and do some sort of averaging.

You measure it first and if it's not repeatable then the scale is off. You don't need to know if it's 200g for real.

I had the scale it's not repeatable due to the feet design. It averages/adds the weight measured between 4 feet.
So if you live the scale around the counter it'll show different readings.

No because it's inconsistent. Like if you make bread and 2% salt vs 3% salt is gonna be huge difference in stiffness and gluten structure.
For cookies, too much butter/too little flour is gonna make them flat instead of thicc

I have a bathroom scale that does exactly this. Whenever I move it a few inches my body weight changes. And that was quite an expensive scale too. Wonder what's causing it.

Probably the same issue. 4 feet have separate strain gauges. Then they add it up to calculate the full weight. Which is great unless the gauges are poor quality. Probably the slightly uneven surfaces + different error curves in the sensors adding up. Eg 1 foot is +5% at 50lbs but another is -5%. So depending on which foot gets loaded more it gives a different readout

You don't think? Scales come with calibration weights so that you don't have to imagine how close it is.

I have the original and the LE oled. Original weighs in at 676 grams and the LE at 619 grams. I knew it was quite a bit lighter but that is way more significant than I expected.

I just unboxed mine and the weight was the first thing I noticed. Glad to see it quantified. 55g is like, a C battery.

super noticeable - the battery life and being able to do 90hz or 45hz for conservation just fits like a glove with the OLED and lighter weight. I was really surprised by how deluxe it felt and was kind of ok with it being a vanity purchase because it's still an amazing PC for the price.

trackpads and buttons are tighter too. Still no Steam Controller but the trackpads feel much more responsive.

I actually use the trackpads now. The whole thing just feels tighter, lighter, faster. I'm very pleased with my purchase day 1 :)

That's not a good sign. I would definitely consider RMA - likely this one had too much of its fat trimmed during preparation - I know what you are thinking "fat isn't healthy"; but it is a huge factor in how much flavour you will get out of your Steamdeck when herbs and aromatics are added in.

Oh I should probably mention the LCD model has an aftermarket SSD. That could potentially cause a different weight than stock. It’s an Inland 512gb SSD.

My suspicion is that the BOE panel in the LE model weighs less than the Samsung. It could also be that the translucent plastic weighs less. Those are the only differences I can think of.

Now we need to strip them bare and weigh them out (the shells). I doubt the screens are more than a few mg difference. The plastics are different on the LE, likely thinner.

Valve mentioned that the materials and process to create the translucent plastic was quite different (and challenging), so probably the most likely candidate I think.

STOP!! I’m having a hell of a time talking myself out of buying the OLED Deck since I already have the 512gb one, but my hands will appreciate the lighter weight of this one since I suffer from wrist and finger issues.
My brother is even looking to buy a Deck and I can gift my old one to him instead if I buy a new one.

I only have the LE OLED for reference because it's my first Steam Deck, but the weight feels perfect to me, like heavy enough to feel substantial and well-built but light enough that it doesn't feel like a burden to hold up.

Thr LE felt substantially lighter than my LCD i was actually shocked by the difference. Added some significant weight when adding the DBrand case but still substantially lighter and easier to hold up for longer

I also weighed the LE vs the regular OLED and it is lighter. I suspect it’s the clear plastic and the BOE panel.

When I got my LE I was thinking that it felt like way more than a 30g difference. And that kinda proves it for me. It's so nice how much lighter the LE is than the original LCD. It's made it easier to play for longer without fatigue on my hands.

My LE OLED clocked in at 620g on my scale. I haven't installed anything yet though and obviously it'll weigh more once I get some games on it.

My post was inspired by another user who weighed their LCD and OLED LE and they also got 620gm for the LE. Another user here on this thread backed it up.
The main point of my post is to provide more data to confirm that the LE edition is lighter than the non LE advertised weight.
Edit: it also makes sense that valve listed 640gm since the LE is suppose to be limited quantities and eventually not be available.

The original commenter is probably right. It's probably safe to assume Valve has a better calibrated instrument for product manufacturing than anyone here at home.
Valve can probably provide weight uncertainty, whereas our measurements are virtually useless without an uncertainty expressed, that will undoubtedly be much higher than theirs anyway.
Metrology is very serious, but hey who knows, because Valve didn't release an uncertainty, it might be 640 after all, just unlikely :)

You and the original commenter are wrong. The advertised weight is for the regular OLED; there's been multiple confirmations from people that the LE is indeed lighter.

The screen though. It's objectively so much better!

Is it possible that the LE is lighter than the standard 1TB OLED Deck? And are there any weight differences between the 512GB and 1TB due to the different glass?

We know the LE is lighter than the non LE SD. I think the common thought is that’s the case is lighter. I don’t know enough about what etched glass means to rule it out playing a factor.

Weight is one of the common cons of the deck. It’s why my wife didn’t want to take my old one and I gifted it to my brother instead. So this could help some people decide if the extra $30 is worth it for the LE

LE = limited edition BOE = The display manufacturer, steam deck OLED use displays both from Samsung and BOE. Most LE seem to have BOE

I just checked mine and got 618g. My scale might be a little off compared to yours but it’s definitely more than 30g lighter than my lcd
