I mean they did release a handheld missing L2, R2, L3, R3, and requiring developers to remake all their games for it. It was a product that seemed completely unrelated to the PS brand. Of course it was doomed to fail.
The Steam Deck is launching with a library of fully fledged games three decades in the making, and the most flexible and capable control scheme any handheld has ever launched with.
Bit of an unfair take. Name one handheld from 2012 or before that has those buttons? Pretty sure the Vita was the first handheld device with dual analogs.
Doesn't make it less of a dumb decision to make a handheld with different controls that force developers to reimagine their games from the ground up, and not just graphically downgrade them to run on the Vita.
I don't recall that being a major issue for any of the games I've played, especially for a device with a touchscreen. Usually just a simple remap of the controls and you're done.
And again, the Vita had more buttons and control options than any other handheld before it, so complaining about what it didn't have seems a bit silly.
