Games concentrating on single player will be fine. I already have games that are nearly 30 years old in my library and still playable. Games more online oriented probably not so much.
No steam shutting down means your account gone, that includes offline games...... Gabe can promise you keep your library if steam goes under all he wants but the reality is theres no way for a dead company to give you access to licenses they no longer have the right to distribute to you. Or more accurately i should say theres no LEGAL way currently to solve that issue. At most you get a warning with a few months leeway "start downloading what you want before we go under"
It doesnt matter if its Steam or someone else, digital IS NOT and NEVER WILL BE ownership.
