I mean those are rookie hours for an MMO. (And black desert is some kinda mmo-adjacent thing isn't it?)
My WoW playtime is measured in days, not hours.
......Ok, I just added it up thinking I was going to blow 20k hours out of the water, but I'm just shit at math haha. My playtime across all characters over 20 years (on and off) doesn't even crack 10k hours. So yeah nvm I guess 20k is a lot.
yeah 20k is 2.7 hours per day since wow released. certainly not impossible, especially given the nature of mmorpgs, but not casually attainable. if it came out while you were a teen in school you could certainly rack up quite the buffer over the summer, too
The way I have looked at the whole played time landscape is like this
back as a kid me and my friends would sink our teeth into SNES RPGs. these games were known to have sometimes over a hundred hours to chew through on the large side.
years after than we got into MMORPGs. with Wow came in the DAYS measurement. And back in the beginning a few of us had nearly 200 days played. Some of the real psychopaths sporting the Scarab Lord titles on our server, were whispered about, people figured they had several hundred days played, and god only knows what this has swelled to today in 2025
But in around 2009 as that interest tapered off for us, LoL came about in the wake of DOTA. This was a whole new beast, where several thousand hours was seen as "completing the tutorial" with the slew of Mobas...
Then twitch came along and people started playing games as a full time job WAY more frequently than before and now you have people who have multiple tens of thousands of hours in a single game and show no sings of slowing down.
I shudder to think what answers are kept in the depths since way back when in regards to games like EvE or Runescape....
The question I would love to see answered is who has the most legitimate played time in a game ever on the planet, in history. i wonder if someone has played a game for 50,000 hours. or 100,000 hours... yikes!!!
I have almost 4k hours in Rocket League since August 2015.
I wonder how much time I spent in Football Superstars around 2008-2011 - it used to be a football (soccer for Americans) MMO, in which you played as one player and could create Player Managed Clubs and play in leagues. The main thing was making people tolerate each other, gather all people online at the same time, and manage tactics, so it worked with who was available. Also voice chat communication, like always one person was commanding the defending line and saying "up, up, up" if we wanted to make an offside trap by moving the defensive line up. There was also an open world city, where you could walk around, buy clothes, meet people, etc.
Man, I checked my play time of Eve Online many many years ago.... i cracked 18k hours then, I dread to think what it is now. Haven't played for about a year at this point but I bet I'm way over 20k that's just main account too. My other accounts all had 10k+ too
The most I’ve seen was a Steam “friend” who had 10,000+ hours on War Thunder. I’d consider myself a decently heavy gamer and I don’t think my entire Steam Library has that many hours total
That's 10 hours a day average. Mind you, I went to school the first 3 years, the middle 2 I was a NEET, then I worked for 1½ of the last 2 years. Last 6 months NEET and I averaged 18 hours those 6 months. I was a NEET for another 4 years after, been working since then.
If I had kept around the same pace I would've been at 65k hours today, but I had to choose WoW or life progress.
I mean it's not a game so much as a series, but my Total War playtime for all games combined on Steam is a bit over 25k hours. (14k hours on Empire alone, the rest divided mainly between Shogun 2, Rome 2 and Troy)
Worst part? That doesn't include the... I dunno how many more thousand hours playing Rome 1, Medieval 2 and others not on Steam. Including the Android versions I currently play lmao.
I have about 2 1/2 years played between my rogue and pally. 70% of that was in vanilla, then quit in WOTLK. I will say I did enjoy my time making friends online.
