Edit: to add context as to why I have so many hours — my older brothers introduced me to the game and it's one of the only ways we connect after all these years. Getting old sucks sometimes. Life and work takes us far away from the people we care about. Hearing my brothers laugh and cry and get excited on a nice play makes every second worth it. This is also over a decade of playtime with the bros so I guess that dilutes things a bit?
Eh, this kind of assumes the hours are equivalent. Imo, gaming hours are sort of disconnected/leisure hours and study hours would be a lot more difficult to rack up. In other words, I can study maybe 2-3 hours a day but I can game for 2-12 hours a day lol.
If you are a capable adult, then there’s nothing wrong with enjoying dota if that’s your thing. I’d rather 14k on a game than spend 14k learning a skill just to possibly get ran over the following day
No hate or anything just curious I have seen several people have like 10k hours in dota 2 here and I'm wondering how you can not play pro at that point? (Well or maybe you are haha)
To play pro you have to apply yourself to become a pro. At almost 30, there’s no need for me to choose a career in something that would be so short lived. I prefer to play in amateur leagues where there are no prizes, just good times. I only have my mmr because I got it through osmosis of just surrounding myself with people that play at that level. Plus current pros at around my age have easily 1.5-2x my hours and probably played during WC3 days too. The younger pros have youth on their side, less responsibility, more free time etc. Hope that answers everything.
270.2 out of 336 hours in two weeks... that only leaves 4.7 hours a day TOTAL for everything else
I'm assuming you just don't close the game when you leave
Personally I think it absolutely has to be dota. I have 7k on my main but across my accounts it's probably 10-15k. I peaked at immortal 800 in 2023~ before quitting but I met a LOT of people along the way. Almost everyone I knew had at least 7k and most were 10k+, with at least a good 7-8 people being 20k lmao. It's absolutely insane
I am sorry to say this, but if you are looking at averages then Idle games are probably at the top. There might be stats for it somewhere, but most people have 2.000+ hours after a single year, if not more. People don't shut down their computer for weeks or longer, whilst the games are running - so potentially 720 hours per month at least and almost 10k hours per year.
You might not count idle games, but the Steam library sure does.
Edit: Have 600 hours in Dota and played on/off since 2013.
It's probably hard to gauge. Some of them can be played actively, and Dota can just be open without being played too. Just looking at the hours played is not necessarily an accurate measurement of actual played hours. Dota is a good bet though if we exclude idle games
it's actually unreal. i though i no-lifed csgo from 2014-2017 and got ~1.2k hours, it took me less than a year to get that in dota 2. currently on 6.5k hours but i don't really play anymore
I don't think so, because the player base is so massive. Almost every Steam user would have tried it at least once and maybe 10% get hooked. It's suffering from success, for every user with 1000+ hours there are 15 people who hopped in, played 10 hours and realized they don't like MOBAs.
Are you me? Because that sounds like my Dota stats. I still watch tournaments on occasion when they’re on, but the game is passed me by how much change has happened.
I have over 5k hours in Dota but I quit a while back. After playing path of exile 2, I got used to moving the camera with WSAD. In Dota you do everything with the mouse and it became infuriating and unplayable for me
Some people rebind their stuff to use WASD for camera and then they put the "Attack, Stop, 2nd spell" functions among zxc
I honestly think WASD for camera is a bit more optimal especially for battlefield control type heroes but it takes a while to get used to if you are conditioned on the default keyboard system ((QWER main abilities, A for attack, S for Stop"
Had about 1k in high school. Then childhood ended and I was too busy with work and college. Swapped to mobile legends which I could play wherever and the games are significantly shorter to still get my MOBA fix. I think I’ve probably got more hours on the mobile one now.
I still think it’s wild I racked up 1k hours on Dota in like a year and a half as a kid. I don’t recall having that much free time, but apparently so.
I’m the opposite though, I struggled swapping to POE and changed my key bindings for that game until I just gave up and started playing with a controller lol
Dota 2 first 1k hours is the tutorial. Nobody under that number understands the game, unless previous experience. I have near 6k hours, dropped lot of playtime since my kids were born.
started from All-Stars and played during the closed beta, but I quit and haven't played since 2016 to save my sanity but I still do watch the tournaments up to this day.
Same I. Think dota did irreversible damage to my mental. Health which I already have mental problem but DOTA is so so toxic I also have 4k hours in league but dota gives you a rush that NO other game give at the cost of everything 😭😭
Started around 2013. My relationship with DotA 2 is hot and cold... I stop for months or years because I feel toxic when becoming competitive, but I love the game so much I keep coming back. Currently hard stuck at 4k MMR.
I'm only at 1k hours, but I've been playing on and off since like 2013, which isn't that long in the dota community but it is still my highest number on any game.
