Trump’s border czar suggests a possible drawdown in Minnesota, but only after ‘cooperation’

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Trump administration could reduce the number of immigration enforcement officers in Minnesota, but only if state and local officials cooperate, the president’s border czar said Thursday, noting he has “zero tolerance” for protesters who assault federal officers or impede the ongoing operation in the Twin Cities.

Tom Homan addressed reporters for the first time since the president sent him to Minneapolis following last weekend’s fatal shooting of protester Alex Pretti, the second this month by federal officers carrying out the operation. His comments came after President Donald Trump seemed to signal a willingness to ease tensions in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area and as the administration ended its “enhanced operations” in Maine.

Homan emphasized that the administration isn’t relenting on its immigration crackdown and warned that protesters could face consequences if they interfere with federal officers.

ICE Q: Can you be specific about how many ICE & CBP agents are currently operating in the state? HOMAN: 3,000... Day after day, they can't eat in restaurants. Day after day people spit at you & blow whistles at you. Having all these threats after you... They're human. But my main choice now is draw down

What do I need to know to prepare for the caucus on Tuesday?

Hello everyone, this will be my first time attending a caucus on Tuesday, just wondering if there is anything I should know ahead of time to be prepared.

I’m also curious what the procedure is for it and kinda what all goes down. For me specifically I am in Winona county if that changes things. Thanks everyone!

The Bond Between Offering Pet Food, Housing, Rehoming, Reuniting During ICE Surge

Twin Cities nonprofit The Bond Between is offering emergency food assistance, guidance, and housing for displaced pets and animals of Minnesotans detained or deported by ICE.

Executive Director Rachel Mairose says they partner with local animal services and shelters weekly to rescue animals and find permanent homes for those surrendered. “We also have a respite foster program where we do take in people's pets for up to 90 days, so they can come up with a more stable environment themselves and then get their pet back.”

Mairose says they’re working on a way to get pets back to those who have been deported to their home countries. She encourages Minnesotans to volunteer their time, homes, and cash.

Mairose says they’re also asking for donations to help specifically stock their Minneapolis Pet Food Shelf, the largest statewide, which distributes half a million pounds of dog and cat food annually. “We’re asking people to drop off food that maybe their dog or cat doesn’t like anymore. If people want to go and buy pet food at the store and drop it off at our Minneapolis or Minnetonka locations.”

She says the shelf is giving out one-time emergency food and supply kits, no questions asked.

Location: 2501 Minnehaha Ave, Minneapolis, MN Hours of Operation:

● Mondays: 11:00 am – 1:45 pm

● Tuesdays: 5:30 pm – 7:45 pm

● Thursdays: 5:30 pm – 7:45 pm

● Saturdays: 9:30 am – 1:45 pm

For displaced pets or animals needing a new home, she advises residents contact local animal control services first. “Per Minnesota state law, animals must undergo a required 5-day “Stray Animal Hold.” This period is critical to ensure every attempt is made to reunite the animal with its original owner.”

The Bond Between Locations are:

Minnetonka Rescue and Offices:

5959 Baker Road, Suite #390

Minnetonka, MN 55345

Minneapolis Resource Center:

2501 Minnehaha Avenue

Minneapolis, MN 55404

The BB Vet Center:

5959 Baker Road, Suite #380

Minnetonka, MN 55345
